Hi All,
Just joined this form and was looking for some suggestion and or feedback. I just picked up a 2012 Super Tenere it’s an awesome bike, yesterday I went on a great ride through George Town (In NorCal) area what a perfect day. One of my buddies has a 2014 Super Tenere and I noticed on his bike the upper “Triple-Clamp” it has this great rubber mount that’s part of the bar mounts / triple-clamp and on test drive this reduced the vibration while driving by 90% WOW!

My question to the group, has anyone successfully replaced their triple-clamp on their 2012 Super Tenere with the OEM 2014 Super Tenere upper Triple-Clamp parts from Yamaha? And if so was it just an R & R without any modifications?
Thank you for the feedback…

While the rubber mounted bars certainly help reduce the vibration getting to your hands, the 2014 also has a different type of clutch basket that produces much less vibration. Changing the upper triple clamp on your 12 will not result in it being as smooth as a 14.

Hey fellow NorCal'r.

-Take the time to generally check and tighten Nuts and Bolts.
-Check the steering head for proper lubrication and adjustment.
-Sync the Throttle Bodies.

This should help with any vibration you are feeling. Different handlebars could also help with comfort.

How many miles on your 2012?

Welcome!!
I have a 12 as well, and all the above helped but #1 Epiphany for the older Tenere's is the 2014 Clutch basket change. ::012::

Thank you & great feedback, I’ll review the items you have shared also the clutch basket. The bike only has 2,700 miles on it. I have an extended warranty directly through Yamaha that covers 100% for 24 months.

I’m going to contact Yamaha today and see (IF) the below are classified as serviceable items?

• Check the steering head for proper lubrication and adjustment.
• Sync the Throttle Bodies.

With that few miles, the motor is still being "run-in". Give it until about 5K miles or so to settle in. Many members here have changed over to the 2014 clutch basket on 13 and earlier models (this is not a replacement per Yamaha, as the newer part has not superseded the old part for the older bikes) and reported much smoother operation, as stated above.

Installed 14 basket in my 13 with 3,000 miles on it...definitely worth the expense. Figured new basket in a new motor made sense.

I haven't done the clutch basket mod yet on my Gen I, mainly because doing the ECUnleashed reflash pretty much eliminated all the vibrations that had been bothering me. Plus added a lot of useful grunt.

In case anyone missed my post above, the first thing I would do to reduce the vibrations is the reflash. It really upgrades the motor from good to great and eliminates annoying vibrations. The CB could be done after that if the OP still feels there is a need...

Instead of doing the 2014 clutch mod, I just bought a new 2014 ES. That way the clutch mod change was easy and didn't even have to get my hands dirty.... ::025::
