2 issues that need advise

I just returned from a 6 day 2500 km ride in the Australian outback and coastal areas on my S10. About 500 km of this was on some serious off road riding. The bike as always handled everything I put it through. I had two issues arise while on this ride and was hoping for some advise.

#1 I camped out these nights and the 12V air pump that I had brought with me to make life a little more comfortable and to blow up my mattress blew a fuse the first time I used it on my bike. The manual says that the auxiliary jack on the S10 has a maximum rating of 30W. The pump has a rating of 33W. The fuse on the auxiliary jack is 3 amp so I replaced it with a 10 amp fuse and the pump worked fine after that. The question is could I damage the electrical system by doing this?

#2 Towards the end of my ride on paved roads the ABS warning light would blink on and go off after a few seconds. This would not happen very often, about every 15 minutes. The light did this for about 400 km and for the last 100 km the light was staying on longer. When I would turn the ignition off the and start it again the light would remain off for awhile then begin to flicker and stay on.
Is there something I could do before taking it to the Yamaha Dealer for further inspection?
I recently had the bike serviced (40,000 km) and rear brake pads changed and thought that this may have something to do with it.

Thanks for reading and looking forward to some advise from fellow Tenere riders on these two issues.

On #1, I wouldn't do the 10A fuse myself. There's a reason for the 30W rating and 3A fuse. If the pump or something else you plug in there faults, you really want the fuse to blow before something melts in the bike's electrical system. It could be that the pump has a start-up current surge that blew the fuse and is ok once running. You might try a 3-4A slow-blow fuse (slow-blow so it can survive the start-up surge) if they make them and see how that goes, but sticking a 10A fuse in a 3A circuit is effectively bypassing the fuse altogether. Not a good idea.

Sounds like a great ride with only very minor problems. Can't wait to do some bike camping with the Tenere!

Howdy,
On #1 yes you could damage the electrical wiring by replacing the 3 amp fuse with a 10 amp, that's a good jump and could overheat the wiring. You are better off running a fused lead directly off of your battery. There are many out there, get the one with the heaviest gauge wire. This is what I do and use the same lead to power my electric liner and my 12v tire inflator. On the reverse I plug my Battery Tender into it when I want to maintain the battery during long down times between rides. On #2 I'm sorry I can't help.
Later,
Norm

On #2, look for anything that might have fouled your sensors, and the associated vulnerable black wires, at each wheel.

You stated you were having a fun ride on some serious off-road? Might have nicked a sensor or wire on a rock or some brush?

I would pull both wheel sensors, and wipe them off. I use compressed air to blow the dirt out of the area, then reinstall the sensors. My rear sensor has acted up twice on me, the simple cleaning fixed it both times.
