off mid week and thought this would be a good opportunity to take it for a run. The plan was to leave home in Brisbane and head down to Northern NSW and do a loop back to home.
I made a leisurely start to the run and didn't get away till about 8.30am. Just south of Beaudesert a heavy fog set in for about 1/2 an hour. Luckily it lifted by the time I got to the Lions Rd. The Lions road runs over the border to NSW and was originally made by army engineers. Now it is maintained through donations.
It's not a bad run across the Lions but is pretty narrow and chopped up in places. I then made my way down through Kyogle and Casino to Grafton were I took the Gwydir Highway up into the mountains. This is a great road if there is no traffic around and I was in luck. Hardly saw another vehicle. There are about 15km of tight corners going up the range and apart from a few wet patches in the shade it was a great run. Up the top of the range it opens out into faster sweepers. Great bike road.
Beside the Mann River just before starting up the range.
Half way up the range.
I was planning on camping in the Gibraltar Range National Park for the night so checked out the camp sites before settling into the Mulligans Camping Area. Got to try a little bit of dirt while looking for a campsite. Nothing spectacular just good dirt roads.
The campsite.
Camp set up
I was the only person in the camp ground.
I had a bit of a stroll around before cooking dinner and checked out a old hut nearby and the creek running past the camp site.
After dark lots of these little fellas came out.
The next morning I was up pretty early and started for home. Like I said the dirt roads were pretty good. Even a dirt gumby like myself can have fun on these
Stopped for a quick photo at one of the lookouts before heading into Glen Innes then up the highway back to Queensland.
Once I was back in Queensland I took a detour through Girraween National Park and past Storm King Dam just to do a bit more easy dirt.
And then it was just straight slab back to home for a late lunch. All up only 900km but a great way to kill a couple of days.
Oh and I'm wrapped in the ST as you can probably tell from all the photos she's in. ::015::
