Went to my local dealer the other day asking how much the 12000 mile service would be, well over £300 he said, so after considering my options, I'm gonna probably do it myself.

The question is, what is required for the 12000 mile service please and thanks .

Engine oil, engine oil filter, plugs, shaft oil, 3 washers (2 for sump, 1 for shaft).

The manual suggests the shaft oil and engine oil filter can go 12k between changing, I change them each service regardless.

The air filter is good for 24k miles, but check it anyway in case its filthy.

Check all the wheel spokes are tight.

Use the opportunity to give the brake calipers a clean and check if they need any attention.

If you've never changed the clutch fluid it might be worth changing it, mine was changed at 6k.

don't believe there's a diff, only one driven wheel. However , the final drive oil at the rear wheel hub, often refered to as shaft oil. Always good to change it at each service. The actual drive shaft doesn't sit in any oil, but its good to wipe it with oil or grease to prevent corrosion. Going a bit further - the splines on the drive shaft are often assembled dry and could do with a bit of moly grease.

Shaft oil? Are you referring to the diff or is that something else I missed?
If you are going to be a pedant you may as well point out it is not a sump either.

No I was not being pedantic, I was referring to the FD/diff, but was a genuine question in case there was a secondary drain for the actual shaft. Sump is also sometimes called oil pan, now, I'm being pedantic...... ::017::

You only need 0.2 litres, and confusingly, for some ;), they recommend Yamalube Drive Shaft Gear Oil

There is one, but technically it's bootleg and the moderators would not be happy for anyone promoting such things......google is your friend.

SAE 80 GL-5 or SAE 80 GL-4 is what they list, so as long as the oil meets those specs you should be good.

I've searched all over the web and nothing.....Is it possible that this forum may have or can someone please post a video of a full service of the S10? Brake pad changes, oil and air filters and plugs.

Cheers

Brake pads and such are on an as needed basis. Everyone has different wear on brakes according to usage. You will get a 100 different answers on Oil and filters depending on type of oil and filters. I run Full synthetic (Blue Bottle Rotellla T) in my engine and Amsoil full synthetic gear oil in the rear end. After the first changes, I don't change the engine oil but about every 5k and the rear end about every 10k. The rear end has never looked dark or had any water in it, so that is what I do.

How are y'all's 12k services so much? I just got quoted $250 for parts and labor for the 12k service. I'm going to let them do this one as it's the first official service I'm getting for this bike (got it at just over 8k with the 8k service already having been done) and then start doing the rest myself. Let the experts look at it before I start screwing around.
