Grettings..

Yes I searched and yes I did find some interesting things but im still scratching my head and open to any ideas or assistance from better searchers then me!

Long story short... the S10 has been some what neglected and hardly ridden in the last 6 months :( . Recently, my brother in law was taking her around the block and I noticed when he started it up the headlights were not on. Today I tore her down and tried to trace the issue but had no such luck. Below are some key elements.

1. The upper lights in housing turn on.
2. The harness visually appears to be like new with no visual issues.
3. When I flip back and forth between high and low beams on switch I hear what appear to be the relay switching.
4. Bike fires up and runs perfect.

I did not replace the bulbs... I find it hard to believe both would go bad at once but I could be wrong.

I also noticed in another older thread that a guy from Italy with a 12' had similar issue and claims he tightened down a connection and problem went away.. does anyone know what he was referring to?

Any assistance I greatly appreciated and free beer if you stop by!!

Have you checked the Headlight Fuse?
Yes, I should have noted that.

It's the top left 20v fuse on left side of S10..

I'm still confused why the small little lights in housing turn on and off..? I assume they run off same fuse?

Thanks ::016::

Actually, from what I've read on this forum about headlight bulbs on the Tenere, they do have a tendency to burn out almost simultaneously.

And, one could have been burned out for a while before you noticed that neither was out. I never ride at night (since I hit a deer one night), so mine could be burned out for a while before I happened to check them or someone pointed it out to me. I would suggest check the bulbs, simple things first.

Sounds like the Headlight Wiring Harness, a common problem on the Gen 1 bikes.
What and where should I look on the harness to indicate its bad?

I pick up a couple bulbs tomorrow.

I maybe wrong but there is something on this Site about it if you Search. Mine went right at the connector just at the front of the tank on the right side of the bike. May have to take off the side panel. Look for a blackish mark on the connector. I also believe Yamaha had a Recall on this for 2012s.

I've had the same problem both light gone had to run with my spot lights. Change both bulbs and see if it helps.

As RED CAT wrote, typically the symptom is a brown or black connector at the bulb, but you ought to follow the wire to the side panel to check both ends. Or simply use a voltmeter to see if the headlight connections are still getting power.

I assume you have the engine running. The headlights don't come on with the key on and engine not running.

Ok great news.. picked up a couple new H7 bulbs, swapped those in, and everything is good now!

Also.. I have the updated harness because it has the thicker wires.

Thanks again for the help. Just found it hard to believe both were blown at same time!

They probably didn't blow at the same time. Likely the first one has been out for a while unnoticed, then the second one goes and it's obvious. That's when you discover both have blown.

10-4!

Rule #1 Always check the most obvious solutions before ripping the bike apart! At least it gave me something to do on Sunday!
