Great day yesterday. Nearly 70 degrees in January and a nice 230 mile ride, of which about 100 was all on dirt roads I've never ridden before. Plus it was my first ride with my new Drift camera. I'll write a review of the camera in the Accessories section, but so far I'm very impressed. Ride was awesome including a road which discouraged cars from attempting. Good warning because most cars would never make it. My 9000+ mile OEM Battlewing only concerned me once when it started to wash out in a dirt/gravel corner, but otherwise it came through as well as I could expect from a non-knobbie. If I keep this up I may need to reconsider this 80/20 tire thing.

Everything except two still shots in this video came from the new camera. Do wish I could figure out how to make a video load in high def on youtube. The real thing looks so much clearer.

Ride with Drift HD170

Thanks, it was nice to finally have some decent raw video. We're down to 46 degrees today. Still running off to get my helmet and test something with a "ride around the block." Shouldn't take more than an hour. :)

Excellent job! You are very creative with regard to camera mounts. How about some pics showing what you used for the various locations of the camera?

Thanks.

Thanks. I was actually documenting a lot of the positions and will be putting all of that into a camera review I'll post in Accessories. I should be able to get that out there in the next day or two.

Very nice vid. Some of those mud holes got my heart pumping, even sitting here on my couch. The shots of the front suspension doing its thing and the shot at the end of the ABS working were great. Overall a very good production. ::008::

Nice jacket too, what brand is it?

Thank you, it was a good day of riding. I was going to post that ABS part of the video somewhere so people who had been wondering can see what happens when you do your best to make it skid. I found it interesting.

Jacket is a Fieldsheer. Been very happy with it. Useful from very cold up to 75 or 80 degrees. Not a summer jacket.

dirt_dad - did you happen to be on Squirrel Gap some time on Saturday? Just wondering cos some of your video looks very familiar... I was doing some video myself (with the two Contours - Roam on the front and HD1080 on the rear). I noticed long stretches of torn-up gravel, about a motorcycle tire wide. I figured some larrikin on a dirt bike had been through before me. Was that larrikin you???

You can see the tracks in this vid if you look carefully. Also watch out for the bit of drama right at the end...

I'm impressed with your camera btw. Looks like it has a number of advantages over the Roam, image quality and ease of use among them.

Trevor, your video definitely looks familiar. Those were definitely the type of marks I was leaving behind, just like you. Although I managed to miss all the wildlife. I'm not familiar with anything called Squirrel Gap. But I was so deep at one point the GPS literally said "Turn Right on Road." I've never heard that before. This is the dirt portion of my ride, is that where you were?

Looks like you were alone. Did you get stood up, too? My wife shot me down for a ride on Saturday. I managed to salvage the day. ::26::

Yep! Squirrel Gap runs along the top of the ridge (parallel with Trout Run) off Rt 55 just west of Wardensville. So it WAS you tearing up the road! I just assumed a lunatic on a dirt bike cos some of the tracks were much closer to the drop-offs at the edge of the road than I was willing to try... :D

Not stood up exactly. You'll recall the plan was to meet at Luray at 9:00, coming from DC I'd have to leave home by 6:45. I set my alarm for 6:20 PM and when I woke at 8:00 wondered why it didn't go off. What a dipshit ::025:: Anyway went for a nice ride anyway, sorry I missed you. I was on that road sometime just after 2pm.

Shhh... I made the mistake of reading your post to my wife. The being close to the drop-offs part led to a game of 20 questions. Yeah, that was me. I do tend to get pretty close to the edge on a right hander. Always have, probably not a good habit, but on pavement I get a twisted sense of enjoyment going up a right hand switchback on the right edge of the pavement. Don't tell my wife.

I was on that road about 3 hours earlier. Funny how neither one of us took the ride we had anticipated and we both ended up in the same spot just a few hours apart.

Good to know you were behind me. I never saw any other vehicle on that road. At the 41 second mark of this video you can see a little bobble where my front briefly started to wash out. Without thinking I put down my right leg and my leg took a bump against the buddy peg. That episode was not a big deal, but it did make me think about being in the middle of nowhere all alone. Happy to know someone else would have been by sooner or later.
