Moving to Cali - need some help (w/parking along the way)

This could be an option. :) I'm speaking at a conference in Napa, then continuing down to the greater Simi Valley area to where our new place will be. So dropping the trailer in a community nearby to St. Helena for a couple days, then fetching and continuing South sure beats risking it on the...

Moving to Cali - need some help (w/parking along the way)

I know, some of you are going to say "You need help BECAUSE you're moving to Cali!"... Some of you may even be tempted by your own local weather to volunteer sight unseen for anything that'll get you to California! But this one is simple... On the nights of March 10 and 11, I need somewhere...

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

Excellent point Don. This is how I know I had more range... Typically the fillup would see me dropping 4.5 - 4.9 gallons in. Clearly more in there.

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

She was up for it. Arrived home at 10pm last night after a marathon 13 hour ride covering 700 miles. Had to add about 20 ounces of oil after the first half of the trip. It was all high speed, high temp running, much of it through deserts. Touratech Expedition suspension easily proved its worth...

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

I've been logging 8 - 11 hours in the saddle the last three days. "Enjoyed" the blast furnace that is the Mojave today, and Joshua Tree (park, not city. City is a craphole.) this evening. Ended up wrong turning in the park, which put me an hour from my hotel, which itself is in the wrong...

ABS Kill Switch - I know it has been covered, but please guide me

TC is turned off my clicking the button on the side of the dash/display. The ABS fuse is, iirc, a separate fuse.

    Traction control off !

Always in TC2. You definitely notice it in the dirt, especially on washboards. Around town, I rarely hoon enough to engage it, though it's easier with knobbies. ;) My S10 has only ever pulled the front end up once, and I reved and dumped the clutch being in a hurry to catch a guy while road...

    Motorcycle shop reviews...

Clearly I missed the notice... I'd have met up for dinner... and taken you somewhere very nice. :) At least you had great weather... unless you were here the one night you had a monsoon this week. I like Yelp, but its very hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. Business owners have to pay...

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

I hear that! Its all just little things (OK, the shock wasn't "little") and most of it is prep work, but yeah, it will be super if everything just works and I can just ride and enjoy. :) THAT would rock! duane

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

The day started great. Touratech sent over a new shock for Alex to install and we're good to rock and roll! We fiddled a bit with setting and the balance is as close to perfect as I've ever ridden. :) Got back to the house to start a bit of cleaning on the bike and prep for remounting the...

    4 year/100,000 mile farkle update

LOVE IT! Thanks you...not for the slide...for the feedback on the accessories and your experiences. ;) (Though I suspect this thread will be moved to the nether-regions of the gear section.)

Hey Yamaha, super tenere nearly killed me

Oh hell no! You can call the rental car you had Christine, if you must, but not a Tenere. It appears you have a hybrid here. A bike with the skeleton and muscles from the Japanese, and the soul, will and heart of an Italian. She demands attention...maybe too much. My suspicion is that garage...

Hey Yamaha, super tenere nearly killed me

The bike isn't at fault. A human is. This is no more an issue with the Tenere than would be a nail through a tire. A part failed. WHY it failed is unclear, though I lean towards an issue with the work performed by the dealer. Certainly no rider failure on this one. But to claim the bike will...

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

What a difference a few hours make. And so very glad I thought to call Alex over the weekend. Brought the bike over to Alex. Touratech had the replacement part for the preload adjuster. We were in business! As Alex started disassembly, he was looking for a cause. Was it a nicked o-ring...

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

Oh, I probably could...but... Once you install an aftermarket suspension on a motorcycle, you won't ride with anything else. ;) Honestly, it's that big a difference - I'd rather shell out for a new unit, fix the old one and sell it, than go back to stock. Ride comfort, control, safety - just...

Super Tenere 4 year/100,000 mile update

Epic ride. Great report. Superb bike! I daresay Yamaha's home office might want a looksee inside it when you're finally done. :) All that said...you're a lightweight. Where is the plan to ride the backside of the Moon? How about Mars? Light. Weight... ;)

Seattle to San Diego (And back...) - Think the Tenere is up for it?

And so the pre-launch drama occurs! Two weeks ago we installed new tires on the bike. That day, I turned the preload adjuster knob on the rear Touratech Expedition shock up two clicks to better deal with the added weight I had on the bike. By the time I got home and hour later, I knew one...

ABS Kill Switch - I know it has been covered, but please guide me

No need to mess with the wheel speed sensor. Just remove the 30 amp ABS fuse. Wire a switch inline with spades/tabs to plug into where the fuse went. Insert a 30 amp fuse inline on the wiring to the switch. Speedo remains unaffected. Flick the switch, interrupt the circuit, ABS is off. When...
