Yup, you're right....NEVER saw one of those. Looks better than the Pan Am.
It looked better but my xb12x was good on road, shit off road, unreliable,constantly prone to problems. 55k over 4 years my problem was that I actually thought it was an adventure bike when it was really a street bike pretending to be the latter

Irv Seaver (local to me) can always get you a base model or any configuration you want no problem at all. I know this because I was considering a GS when I was shopping for my Super Tenere. One of many things that put me off on the BMW were all the GS's in the service department lined up with forks, driveshafts, and motors torn down for major repair. There were only a few bikes that were in for routine service.

Of course you have to understand that Irv Seaver is the one of the oldest and well known motorcycle dealers in the world.

My dad told me a story of his BSA he purchased from Irv Seaver. Back then all the new bikes had drip pans underneath them to catch the oil dripping off the motors.
Seaver? Wow that is some ancient history. I remember when they had the little shop on Main St selling Suzuki and BSA along with the BMW...... Oh, and Dave Aldana worked there

The looks in solid colors are growing on me. I think it looks like an Adventure bike with the front of a road glide. Maybe a full dresser would be The Dirt Glide? Here's hoping they have a demo ride in the future. Maybe like Indian did with their new Challenger where they brought a new Road Glide so you could compare directly, like the Coke vs Pepsi challenge.

My younger brother is a Harley Rider, which is surprising as he used to say "tip over" when he heard a long Harley go by in his younger years. After riding his Low Rider, his friend's Sporty, and his new to him 2016 Road Glide I've found them to competent street rides. My brother has somewhat convinced me if I was to get a big vtwin cruiser that Harley's just "feel" a bit more premium. Nice buttons to press, kind of a big Chevelle sort of chunkyness. Something that missing on the older metric cruisers. He agrees through older Harley's didn't give off the premium "feel" through. It was noticeable to me when I did the Indian Challenger vs Road Glide Demo Ride. The Challenger was the faster, sound system louder, and fancier dashboard. But I preferred the Harley seating, and controls... so like the Pepsi challenge I "picked" the wrong one! Granted neither one of them swayed me from the Tenere I rode down with, it was a fun afternoon and a good way to stretch the legs. Nothing better than being able to hop the curb and showoff the versatility the Tenere offers!

I've found Harley riders to be like my fellow Jeep wrangler owners, true enthusiasts are great people. It's the mall crawlers/RUBs that give the product the shame. But, if they didn't buy it at outrageous prices we wouldn't be able to buy it for a steal with so little miles on the clock years later! The Low Rider he brought he put more miles on it over one season that the previous owner did it 6 years of ownership!

In thought it sounded a lot like the Tenere. Definitely nothing like an average H-D.
I think I read that Harley has the crank throws so that it fires like a 270 degree parallel twin or 90 degree V-twin. It really does sound like a Tenere!

You were watching the road signs too.
Chang Mai has a big expat population of retirees, warm people, and is close to good riding.
I couldn't see the signs but I speak a little Thai. I was teaching in Vientiene for a while. Laos is similar to Thai and they have Thai tv. I used to hire a Yami 250 tralie for the weekend and blat off into the interior to check out how many Kalashnikovs I could see and enjoy all the villagers checking out the falang. Invariably I was inundated and all good fun.

The area sure does get its fair share of chilled expats. I remember sitting in a bar on the Mekong listening to Rock Steady (66-68) the precursor to reggae:

Used to pop over to Nong Kai to catch 30kg catfish and 80kg carp on sticky rice too... Crazy

I always wondered if Laos was like 1950s Thailand...

Got a chance to sit on the PA today. Looks great in person and the seat felt really comfortable. Unfortunately this is a US bike making the rounds in Japan and they couldn't even switch the key on, much less start it. Size-wise it's a bit taller than my S10; with my 30” inseam I could barely get the balls of my feet down while on the S10 they’re firmly planted. I can see the adaptive ride height coming in handy.

I signed up for a test ride in Lake Elsinore next month.

Even though I'm not in the market for another adventure bike and am not a Harley fanatic, I'm excited to see how this bike feels. Too bad so many people are not willing to even give it a chance due to the badge on the fuel tank.

If this bike is anywhere near as good in reality as it seems to be on paper err.... electrons, I think Harley's got a hit on their hands. The remaining questions we be about reliability, but if it proves acceptable (and it just has to be better than KTM or BMW) I might consider owning one some day. I've never said that about any other Harley ever!
