Thinking of hanging up the helmet

I think anyone that rides motorcycles considers giving it up. I certainly have over the years, but then I take a ride and remember all over again what I love about riding. In the past few years, I've had some health and other problems, and seriously thought of paring down the herd to just the...

Is anyone regularly hitting or breaking 200 miles or more per tank?

In mid-May, I did a two day ride and averaged 48.7 mpg. Really. I topped off fully and calculated it by math rather than the somewhat dubious readout. It was a mix of slab, mountain roads, dirt and twisties. I recalculated it eight times as I couldn't believe it. Temps in mid 50s-60s. Works...

A Plain and Simple Case of Outhouse Luck!

Great Story. I'm to the point I'd like to hunt from my home, heat and everything right there! Tomorrow's our first day, and I may do just that! (Same concept as to why you never see old guys charge machine gun nests)

    First new bike questions...

+1 Performance wise, other than the fuse in the clutch switch, mine is completely stock. I would suggest some sort of bash plate. It is tempting to go off road when you get it, but that plastic thing is fairly useless. Power wise, it is more than enough. After break in and such, it will become...

    One Year Old

It really is a great bike. I even have the original headlight harness! I keep checking it, but I've yet to have a problem. And mine is a 2 digit serial number bike. Happy Tenere anniversary.

    First new bike questions...

Actually, I believe it represents a Toureg tribesman. I called Yamaha USA and they wouldn't even discuss selling it here. You would think they would want our money, but I had to send it to the Canadians. I'm pretty sure Jaxon sells them here.

The bike that started my Adventuring

Nice build. I like things that end up looking like they came from the factory that way. Outstanding work. ::008:: Graham: I agree with everything you said. The XT900Z sounds enticing.

    Anyone heard from Dallara lately?

Just like my wife says: "I'm so miserable without you, it is just like having you here." ::018:: I wouldn't belong to an organization that would have me as a member. (sorry for the plagiarism, Groucho)

He's back, and better than ever!

If you watch carefully, it is already gassing away before he hooks up his High-Zoot ultrasonic attachment. CLR is quite effective, but since it is an acid, I'd think he'd want to disassemble first, and do a neutralizer bath second. It might be a bit much for zamac castings. It will damage...

New Barnett clutch basket, do you want one?

Even with our spiffo-deluxe rebuild, I'm in. While the rebuild is certainly an improvement, a proper setup is even better. E-mail sent.

    First new bike questions...

+1 on the "City" tankbag. Ideal for the bike. The gas cap ring mount is a real good idea. You may wish to get something to protect the tank, as the bag kisses it from time to time. I went to www.Yamahagenuineparts.com and bought the "Tenere Dude" that Yamaha sells, but not here in the USA...

He's back, and better than ever!

Never underestimate the resourcefulness of fools! Future Darwin Award recipient. Ichiban Moto DIY Ultrasonic Cleaner- well... "ultrasonic-ish" vibrating cleaner for parts. :o Happy Thanksgiving!

Where does the weight come from?

Crankshaft is quite robust. It is easily seen with the clutch cover removed. The shaft, wheels and frame/running gear are all robust and heavy; there's nothing featherweight or minimal on the whole bike. Still lighter than the FJR, and much lighter than cruisers. Look up Harley and the new...

    Snowing …….

Interesting as it shows Garrett county somehow is off the list...Maybe they just called and said they aren't playing this time. ::) Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
