Hi there,

Quick advice on what is the ideal size and where to install an extra fuel long haul can (5L vs 10L debate as well..see photos)...on an S10 with OEM top case and passenger saddlebag (see photo)...clean installation with no major disturbance to the clean set up of the bike...

Thanks a lot!

I would add...in an ideal world it would be something like on this mysterious S10 that I couldn't identify...see the extra tank on the rear seat running on the sides down to the bottom of the fuel tank....but this assumes two things: 1- finding this custom tank which is almost impossible, 2- convincing my wife to give up on riding as passenger which is more impossible..

I forgot about that photo / idea……. I need extra fuel for a ride this summer. I might have to build that. Thanks for the reminder.

A local customer of mine showed me how he does it.

Interesting. I have the AltRider pillion rack and couldn't get my Rotopax mount to allow for flat placement that wouldn't interfere with my top box mount or the side handles. It's a one gallon Rotopax. I use Rok straps (the small ones) and it holds quite securely and fits fine. I'd prefer the Rotopax mount to avoid the fussy strapping. I may need to take a drill to the pillion rack.

This is a zoom on that prototype...it looks sooooo wonderful that I wonder why the hell they did not sell some of these...
I know why………. That unit was probably a shell or fiberglass that wouldn’t hold water. Yamaha probably did contact suppliers to produce a real tank. Once the bean counters and 22 departments added it all up it would be put on sale for $2200 / $1500 / $3000……?…….. point being, how many are they going to sell?
Second- this type design requires it being tapped into the stock tank. The manufacturer wants no part in the liability that goes with that. They don’t want a dealer messing with it.

So….. there is what I know…….

I forgot about this design. I’ll probably end up making myself a copy of this.

what you said makes a lot of sense...may be we can check the members in this forum so that we can all contribute to the design cost and production upfront? just saying...

. . . . I forgot about this design. . . .
The first time I saw this picture was on this forum, I think. It was a photoshoot where the bike was on display like in the second pic above. The first pic above almost looks like it's a functional bike. I remember thinking, when I first saw it, that it was not an aftermarket piece that would just bolt up. Definitely slick though. IIRC it was a "World Crosser".
