As a matter of fact at the mine we used Donaldson filters on all our yellow iron, primarily Volvo but Deere and Cat too. It's a premium filter but I don't know if they cover motorcycles.
Well said and I am 100% in agreement. There are standardized SAE filter efficacy and integrity (pressure, tensile medium strength etc.) tests. I’ve never seen any of these visual tear down opinion pieces that included any of that information. Granted, expensive testing apparatus is needed to measure these factors, so it’s easy (and lazy) for so called “experts” to simply just ignore these key measures of oil filter performance and rely on their opinions. As for filter quality, I'm not always sold on "experts" who cut open filters and then proclaim that they're junk because one filter has a metal part and the supposed lower grade filter's similar part is made of plastic. Or that one filter has "x" number of pleats in the filter material, and the other only has "y" number of pleats, so of course the "x" filter is better. Or that "x" has seven oil passage holes and "y" only has five, so "y" is total crap. The proof of a filter's effectiveness is how well it filters particulates out of the oil, and none of those "cut it open" tests prove anything one way or another. If there's an actual scientifically conducted blind test out there that demonstrates the effectiveness of these filters, that would be valuable info. I'm not as convinced by the "in the good old days this part was metal, and now it's plastic, so this filter is now crap" argument.
the filter referenced by skunkworks appears to be an “inhouse” filterfor Donaldson. There is a lot of crossing between the various makers and they will buy small runners from each other. As a matter of fact at the mine we used Donaldson filters on all our yellow iron, primarily Volvo but Deere and Cat too. Tabasco,Let me throw this bit of info for people that specifically have “Auto-Zone” in there town.
We have an Auto-Zone in our town and they will price match virtually anything from anyone. Yesterday the Mobil-1 filter for a different bike was $14.99 on the shelf. I pulled up on my phone someone running some nutty sale for $5.75. They sold it to me for that. I picked up some Mobil-1 T4 motorcycle synthetic oil and it was like $14-15 a quart, but I found it online for 9 and they price matched. The K&N oil filter on there shelf was $17 bucks and I found it online for$6.99, they price matched.
As I was talking to the folks they said most people don’t know we price match. He said to me as a general statement about people to price match “all you need to do is be nice, and show us the online price, we will price match”.
I stood there and made them laugh and we cracked a few jokes and I saved a ridiculous amount of money just for pulling up a few online prices and being what the kids say “cool”…. LOL
I’m not sure if this is a nation wide deal but at our place they always do it and are really helpful and nice about it. I typically know what I want and do the homework before I go inside to make it go quicker. I screen shot the items and the price and show them when I’m online. No big deal.
Try it one day and save a TON !
(Side note) after reading a few of these post on this tread. I would suggest a few of you pull up some You-Tube videos of oil filters (tear down / what is on the inside) and choose wisely. Unless your selling your bike next month.
If anyone has a line on the AmsOil filter, I would like to get some of those. They are almost impossible to find or buy here in my area.
According to Wikipedia:Let me throw this bit of info for people that specifically have “Auto-Zone” in there town. . . .

I am an AmsOil preferred customer. This means I get their products at dealer cost. I now can also order and ship directly to other people. I have two friends that I ship products to regularly. If you need some I can order some. Just send a PM.
