You don't want to wear a mask and be a responsible member of society. That's fine. Society is bigger than you and will crush you like a bug if it feels the need to. Taken to extreme, you see this happening in third world countries now. Hopefully it never gets to that point in the US during my lifetime, but it will get to that point here in the US eventually.
It's already here locally in Los Angeles and Anaheim CA. Those 2 cities alone are comparable to Pohang-si, Subic City, Sasebo, and many other rat holes I visited when traveling.

I don't see how anyone can play the personal freedom card when other people's lives are at stake. I will mask up not only for my own safety but for the safety of others. It's the least we can do for each other. I will wear a mask and stay home home until this passes. I sure don't want to go through what my neighbor did. 7 weeks in the hospital on a ventilator, several times the doctors called her family and told them she might not make it through the night. She is home now, but still on oxygen and a visiting nurse checks on her every day. Hopefully most of the country will be vaccinated by early summer.
I hear you there. Watching a perfectly healthy family member die from COVID was not good at all. I wish the very best for your friends recovery. The way of our world these days is selfishness on a level that has never been experienced before.

You need only watch a few YouTube videos or in my case drive past the local biker bar to see the Pea Brains gathering in force.

Mask wearing has not reduced here. Removing the mandate just forced businesses to make their own mask requirements. I see just as many (if not more) wearing masks now. I truly believe some simply refused to wear a mask whenever they could as an act of protest. Now that the mask wearing has shifted to a personal decision, in some cases they now choose to wear one when they didn't before.

And this is how it should be. I wear a seat belt, helmet, safety glasses and other protection because it’s my choice. I beat full consequences of my failure to do so.

Now when I am employed by someone else they can mandate what safety equipment I will wear. They can make wearing hard hats, fluorescent vests, steel toed boots and whatever they want as part of my employment.

However when you have a pandemic and have mandated something like wearing masks, it has to be based on something. Hospital occupancy rates, positive case ratio percentage, etc.

A never ending restriction on people is not feasible.

I don’t know what conditions exist in your area. A 70 year old retired man or one sitting at home milking workers comp is going to have a vastly different viewpoint than a 25 year old man who has to go to work every day or starve. Protect yourself according to your situation.

The mandates have to end sometime. However you can wear a mask till the end of time. Double and triple masks. Even go to the extreme of spraying yourself down with alcohol. Just don’t expect everyone to feel the same way you do. And good luck forcing everyone to wear a mask or a condom.

Someones income or lack thereof has nothing at all to do with how they look at this disease. If you are working everyday your risk of COVID is no more greater than someone who is injured or retired providing you are taking precautions. In fact injured and retired individuals are at just as much if not more risk just by the fact they are having to see doctors and enter medical facilities where COVID patients are being treated.

I would think it depends on the quality and fit of the mask. The N95, KN95 and some of the medical masks probably offer the wearer some degree of protection. On the other hand a mask made out of an old tee shirt or some of these neck gaiter masks probably offer almost zero protection. There's a reason that doctors and nurses wear them.
I get the quality difference. But, even an N95. . . . does it not prevent transmission from the inside, and out?

I am guessing the issue is with the inexpensive disposable masks most of us use. When talking, sneezing, etc, they prevent the exhale from being directional and it kinda makes a cloud to the sides of the wearer. However, when there's a cloud of somebody else's vapor around the wearer they are not effective at filtering around the sides and top. If you wear glasses, the proof is in how they will fog the lenses. The 95 series tend to be better fitting.

I've noticed at the shop that the anti-maskers have a lot in common with the loud pipes save lives gang.
I’ve got a friend that has an independent Harley shop. He’s been keepin the boys locked out the shop ever since rona hit. His wife is a obstetrician. He told me “you just don’t know how nasty these mfrs are”. He talks to customers through a 6’ hurricane fence now and stays about 10' back.

The one thing that I never understood about wearing the mask, was that the doctors claimed that "you" wearing the mask was to protect everybody around you. I'm assuming that that would be true if "you" were infected. Got it, makes sense. But the doctors also said that the mask did little to prevent "you" from getting infected from someone else. Wait, what? Masks only work in one direction? If a mask can keep the virus in. . . . surely, it can also keep it out.

Still gonna wear a helmet when I ride. . . . seatbelt when I drive. . . . and, mask when I'm out in public. It's just not that big of a deal.
The reason that a mask do little to prevent you from getting infected is that you can get infected through your mouth, nose and eyes, and only the first two is covered by a mask - and that is why healthcare workers also use (or should use) a visor or protective glasses when dealing with patients who are infected.

Wearing a mask does reduce the risk of getting infected to some degree, but it's not the primary reason to wear one - it's something you do to protect other people.

You wear a seat belt, helmet and safety glasses for your own protection, and you bear the consequences if you decide not to wear it.
For that reason I agree that it should be a personally choice.

Wearing a mask is something you do to protect other people.
For that reason I find it reasonable to make it mandatory, as many people are too selfish to care about anyone else than themselves and their loved ones.
I'm a strong advocated for personal freedom, but recognise that some rules are required for a society to function.

I agree 100% with you that any restriction imposed on us have to make sense, be based on hard facts and adjusted according to a clear defined set of parameters (hospital occupancy rates, positive case ratio percentage, etc.).
Never ending restrictions on people is indeed not feasible!

I'm sick and tired of the restrictions imposed on me by what I consider to be an over cautious government that consist of politicians I didn't vote for - but that's the flipside of democracy - you have to concede to the majority, even when you are not in agreement. It can be frustrating, but the alternatives are worse.

Some employers in UK are now making the vaccine mandatory for new staff. I can see a time where you will not be allowed to enter some shops and bars unless you have been vaccinated. British Airways have announced they will be doing this shortly. Why would businesses allow non vaccinated people to put their staff and customers at risk?

I have two sons enlisted in the armed forces. My boy told me they are not being forced to have the vaccine as of yet because it has not been through the vetting process.

And please explain how someone who is retired and can stay home all day is at more risk than the cashier at Walmart? Or the meat processing plant worker who has to go to work, or you don’t eat?

but, but, but I have to go to the doctors office.
And there’s sick people there. What if you had to work there?

Pretty selfish

Here are the local stats for yesterday. As a governor how do you justify telling the business owner they can’t be open? If you owned a wedding center and had no business for the last year? Or a restaurant, or catering service or any other such business.

How long are you going to mandate a pandemic with no supporting hospital rates or a death count so low?

And what about those who have been vaccinated or have recovered? Are you going to make them wear a mask for all time?

You say masks work. Yet when the positive cases peaked there were mandatory mask rules in effect. I call BS on the mask wearing as an effective prophylactic. The biggest problem is you will never get people to wear them properly. Change them frequently and not constantly touch them. MAYBE in a perfect setting they ate a deterrent.

If you have been fully vaccinated, or fully recovered from the Covid are you going to still wear a mask and isolate? The public that I see in my area aren’t. My observation.

Vaccinations are open to everyone 50 and above here. No riots, no protests, no BS drama from forum drama queens. They will be open to everyone 16 and above as of April 1st.

Time to resume life.

I beg to differ. What's sad is this is almost like a KKK or BLM rally where they teach kids at a young age how to act in society. Very sickening in a small populated state where over 1600 COVID related deaths have occurred. Idaho is no better than Los Angeles. No drama just the facts.

Only good thing is you are able to get the vaccine with no restrictions. If the above picture and your attitude toward the vaccine are any indicator there will be an over supply in your state as most will not be getting vaccinated.

Your sources seem suspect.

Are you disputing the public is not wearing masks correctly? Or even not wearing them at all? My experience locally says no.

One can hold onto the victim mentality forever.

You don’t know if I’ve been vaccinated, had Covid and recovered. And quite frankly it’s NO one else’s business. So keep up the posts about riots and anti maskers, and other small and fake events. Justify the hate and fear.

And a funny thing about democracy, it works both ways. It looks like the majority in “my” local area are moving on.

I’ve got better things to do. Keep yourself safe and God Bless.

Let me try to offer an explanation that is strait forward. Masks, as a general device, not an N95 or higher level of medical mask, all stop moisture particles you breath out, (exhale). They do better at exhaled moisture than at inhaled moisture particles. The virus needs moisture to stay alive for short periods outside the body.

So, everyone wearing a mask is greatly minimizing or eliminating moisture particles being spread into the air around them, which may or may not contain virus contaminants.

To a lesser degree, moisture particles in the air around you are stopped by the mask too, but then they are trapped in the mask, which you are breathing through, which is why it's less effective in stopping the virus coming in, Vs going out.

Now, a huge problem with this Coronavirus is that many people have no symptoms, even when they have the virus. They don't feel sick. But they are carriers of the virus and spreading it everywhere they go if they are not wearing masks. You can't tell, they can't tell, but it's like Typhoid Mary, they obliviously go around spreading the virus and potentially getting people sick and some of those people may die.

If everyone that knew they were sick wore masks, that's great. Even that isn't true. ("it's just a cold" denial w/o actually getting tested to find out happens a lot here) BUT, if everyone wears the masks, Then if they are a carrier with the virus, (regardless of if they know or not), EVERYONE is at far less risk for contracting the virus.

Something else to keep in mind that a lot of people seem to be ignoring. Just because you've had Covid, doesn't mean you can't catch it again. That's documented, not just me guessing. People have died the second time that only had minor symptoms the first time, also documented. And just because you get vaccinated, that also doesn't mean you won't catch Covid. It gives you a much, much higher chance of not having severe complications though. The more variations of the virus spreading around, the greater chance you will catch it more than once.

This is hugely different from the vaccinations most of us got as kids where you got it once and you were golden. Too bad we can't get vaccinated once and have total immunity, but this type of virus doesn't work that way, it's always mutating.

Now I do agree if someone is home all day with visits to the doctors office and essential shopping the risk can be less. The issue is those Walmart Workers or other high risk workers not following safety guidelines.

When this pandemic started my employer had hard rules. We had to disinfect trucks before and after our shift, wear gloves and masks before entering the gate and not remove them until exiting the gate at the end of your shift. If you were caught not following the rules then you were sent home.

Same thing with flu shots. The company provided flu shots on site for all employees. If you did not take one then you were sent home until you could provide proof of vaccination. If you refused then you were terminated. Simple as that.

The problem with high risk Walmart workers is they are refusing to follow the rules. And letting customers run around with no masks or social distancing. The security is a joke and the theft alarms are almost non stop.

Target and Albertsons took a different approach. They have security stationed outside and inside the stores with customer limits to how many can enter. If you refuse to wear a mask or are closer than 6 feet then you are asked to leave. If you don't comply then you are forced to leave. One way isles in each store with big arrows and pads where you stand. Home Depot and Lowes are a little more lax but the ones near me have good security that is enforcing the social distance and mask rule.

I ask people politely to wear a mask. As I am protecting them and their family, I would appreciate if they reciprocate. Thank you very much.

If they give me an "old-fashioned look" I politely explain that I find the wearing of the mask horribly uncomfortable and I understand that it is the same for them. However, it is just for a small amount of time and if we all work together everyone will benefit sooner rather than later.

If that fails, I mawashi-geri them to the diaphragm :D

I saw on the news today that the AztraZeneca vaccine MIGHT have a fly in the ointment. Apparently the UK has stopped using it for now.

Wifey got her first dose of Moderna today (major relief!), the first day she was eligible due to her heart condition.
Yes you are correct. As of 09:00 this morning those with pre existing conditions are eligible according to https://myturn.ca.gov. I am happy for you and your wife Jeff and a applaud you for doing it honestly and with integrity.

Ironically this comes the same day our governor decided to drain more of taxpayers income to make a website denouncing his recall.

I am having a heck of a time getting mine. Good news is Davita has been approved to start giving doses to the Dialysis patients in the next few weeks. In just 30 minutes or so I'm taking my mother in law to a Kaiser vaccination site and my wife will be next at a Davita facility soon.

The only way I can get mine is to lie my way into getting a vaccine and go to a super site. I have decided to just wait it out and go to my primary care doctor. They are going to contact me when it becomes available. The super sites around here are still pretty sketchy to go to without the risk of protesters.

The hot spot for vaccination right now is the Tuban Chavez Community Center. Now that we have open borders, it's just a short 15 mile jaunt from Mexico to the vaccination site. Access for the COVID-19 vaccine is free regardless of immigration status. With no border restrictions it has made access a breeze. Anyone who is not a US citizen can come on over and enjoy stealing money out of taxpayers pockets to get vaccinated.

My girlfriend got her second shot of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday.

Yesterday she was fine. Today she woke up tired and developed flu like symptoms during the morning/early afternoon.
After work she slept for 3 hours.
When she woke up late in the afternoon the symptoms were gone and we went for a walk through the countryside.

When she got the shot, she was informed that she could expect full protection in 2 weeks.
