After working the past 3 days while my brand spanking new Tenere sat in the garage, I was able to put nearly 300 mi on it.
What a great bike!! Nothing really "stood out", but everything jut felt right and worked.
My bet description is the result of breeding a sport bike and a BMW GS.
I love the power and feel like I can lean this bike way over in a turn. Easier to ride faster in the twisties than the GS.
I ordered the Givi top and side case mounts and the larger touring V-stream wind screen. I wanted the mid size sport/tour screen but they are back ordered until Oct., and I have a week long trip coming up.
Made an appointment for the 600 mi service on Tue. At this time I will have the heated grips installed.
I also ordered the Yamaha skid plate and wind screen winglets. I was going to get the Alt Rider plate but it won't fit with the Yamaha crash bars. The Yamaha looks good and much cheaper at $180.
Can't wait to put some more miles in this bike.
I was worried I was going to regret selling the RT, but after today, I didn't even think about it.
Like many have said, my only regret is not buying one sooner.

Great bike, isn't it? I find the bike to be a lot of things, and like you, nothing really stands out. It took me a while, but what finally dawned on me was the Tenere is sort of a cross between the old enduros and the XS650 with touring and long distance aspects thrown in. The power is somewhat like the 650 in delivery, just a lot more.

Be advised that the Yamaha skid plate isn't up to much. I dented my right side header behind the plate when a rock tossed up by the front tire whacked it good. The plate wasn't dented: it sprang back, but the pipe was. Good for dirt roads, marginal for stone roads, no good for serious rock and dirt riding. It isn't so much the plate but the mounting. If you're not going off road on anything tougher than a forest service road that cars use, you'll be ok, but anything else, get a better plate.

I had the Yamaha plate and upgraded to the Alt Rider. Yes I have the Yamaha bars and did have to modify the front of the AltRider a little and now it mounts to the bar and not the engine.

I also cut an inch out of the rear bracket so it didn't hang down so far.

I'm still waiting for the guys at Flatland to make a plate. If they can make a serious plate like the one I have from them for my WR250R, I'll be a truly happy camper. I'll have to nag them again.
I have made the decision to use the WRR for the gnarly off-road and use the Tenere for less rock-infested duties.
