I've read many threads on here regarding seat comfort for both the rider and pillion. The stock riders seat is okay with bumper mods, but I wouldn't mind having some something taller (my inseam in 36"). The more pressing issue is the pillion seat. My wife is good on the stock seat for about an hour and then it becomes painful. We've tried an Airhawk and V46 Givi case with back rest, but it doesn't really help. Let know what what you got. Also, I would be interested in trading both my OEM riders and pillion seats. for reference my Tenere is 2012.

You have a couple options , 1) Seat concepts.com is coming out with a lower seat shipped with a pan in a couple weeks and also have the pillion, 2) RDL can build your seats to your spec with your pan 3) Seth Laam can build your seats also . I am sure there many other seat places but as I understand from this site option 2 & 3 would be the best. I just sent my seats to Seth Laam , Can't wait to get them back my stock seat sucks !! Just put in your order and he will get back to you , It may take a few ? but he will get back to you !!

Thanks for the info and input. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Laam after some miles have been piled on.

Probably true that RDL or Laam are your best options. However, Seat Concepts is a great value for the price. I'd say my seat is 2-3x more comfortable for 20% the price of a RDL. I could only do about 50 miles on the stock seat before discomfort set in. I can do 450-500 miles comfortably on my Seat Concepts.

If cost is an issue, take the seats to a local upholstery shop. Auto or regular, and discuss your issues and needs. Surprisingly often, a local shop will be happy to have a go and it and while not as nice as a custom bike seat maker, the results can be excellent. And often for quite a reasonable price. It will usually be helpful to have the bike there for discussion on what you want to accomplish, but if weather is preventing this, just take the seats and find someone interested for a fair to you price and go from there. You will have a new cover 95% of the time, so put some thought into what type of material you want now. Smooth or tacky like the OEM? Vinyl or leather, etc.

I have a Russell Day Long on my Super Ten and had one on my FJR before it, and it's the best seat out there unless you have a bony butt. But I do long distance riding, so need that. Many will be just as happy with a seat comfortable for shorter days.

Thanks for the info. I did't realize Russell Day Long didn't work with bony butts (my wife and I both have these). The last thing I want to do is spend a bunch a money not be happy with the end result. Really, I was hoping someone had after market pillion seat they longer wanted as the stock riders is fine for me (I've put riding days greater then 700 miles on it). Just trying to find something better for the wife.

You might try flattening her seat with spacers described in this thread:

When we moved from the Gen1 to Gen2 bike, the spacer had to come along. Karen was good for maybe an hour on the stock seat. With the flattened seat and Airhawk she's done 10 hour days.
I read this thread sometime ago, but had forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder and idea. Just have to see what scraps of nylon I can find.

I have a bony butt, and love my RDL. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Good to know. I'm going to try out a Saddlemen Adventure Touring seat set. If it doesn't work out, I maybe going the RDL route.

Any feedback on the Saddlemen Adventure? I'm considering it as I hate the stock seat.
I never though the stock seat was that bad especially after doing the bumper leveling seat mod. The Saddlemen Adventure Tour is definitely more firm and one doesn't sink into it. I recently did a 2k trip on the Saddlemen with the longest day being 557 mi and two back to back 400 mile days. My butt was sore, but not painfully so. However, I also did the seat bumper mod on the Saddlemen (it has the same sloping issue as the stock seat).

Thanks,
Chris
