I'm searching but seems like a lot of the people on the West Coast want more for their bikes than what I can buy a Leftover 2013 for. Some want full price for all the Farkles they have on them also. I don't mind paying for a good bike that has good options but it has to be reasonably priced. It's looking more and more like I will just end up buying a leftover 2012 or 2013 and putting my own stuff on it.. But I'm not in a rush so I will keep looking for a month or so and see if the right deal comes across my computer..
I understand. For the most part, farkles on a used bike are worth nothing when selling. Not everyone realizes that. Everyone is unique, and how we farkle a bike is also often unique to our tastes and needs. what has value to the owner, often does not to the next buyer. Sometimes even detracts from the perceived value.
When you consider one of those East Coast bikes, do factor in the shipping or travel costs to get it to you, but I'm sure you've already considered that. I recently bought a used bike in Portland, OR and flew up and rode it back the next day. It just happened to be what I wanted, at a price that I was willing to pay, (after some negotiation), and I was able to use air miles on a CC to get a free one way ticket, off setting the travel costs. Don't forget to ask what the "Out the door" price is on left over new bikes too, many of the dealers, especially in the East, tack on extra charges. And consider the higher tax you'll pay when you register it in Utah as well, (newer model year).
Keep in mind also, that the 5 Year Yes warranty only costs about $450 if you buy it online, and can be added to any bike still under the std one year warranty period, even if you're the second owner. Most dealers will throw that in if you haggle, (on a new bike). Retail is something like $950. And that $1200 in Yamaha accessories doesn't go far if you go with the oem bags, etc. The oem skid plate is no more than a light gravel guard and has poor mounting that can result in oil sump damage if it takes a hard impact.
A quick search shows $9100 to $10K will get you a used S10 with 12-25k miles on it, some with farkles, some not. What's your price point?
