What are thoughts on how the Super Tenere will compare on-road with the Vstrom & off-road with GS1250? Sure wish they'd bring these to the U.S.A. --- any chance of getting these in Canada, anyone know?

I did circa 100 miles on a Super Tenere a month back. I can say that its road manners are exemplary, the suspension is well sorted and on factory settings provided perfect feedback on both highway and twisties.

I've got a couple of sport tourers in the "stable" right now and waiting on my pregnant self to welcome in 9 mo. the super tenere. I don't need a third bike for sure, but at the deal I got from D&H Cycle in Cullman, AL, I just couldn't make myself pass on it. My other scoots are a 2004 ST1300ABS with about 92,000 mi. (and still as good as ever-aren't Hondas supposed to last forever!!), and a 2008 FJR1300 (black beauty) with about 36,000 mi on it. I've done a bunch of iron butt rides on many different bikes over the years. I ride pretty much every day and use my bikes for transportation, trips, fun rides, grocery shopping (don't buy so much that way) and as mental therapy when I work on them i.e. most of all maintenance 'cept engine work. I'm kind of an old fart (63 y/o) that is convinced he's 40 and gonna keep thinking that. ;D That is my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Unfortunately, I am divorced so life is much better or much worse depending on which memory I seem to recall ::).

I've owned BMWs, Yamahas and Hondas in the past. Currently I'm riding a 2006 Triumph Tiger 955i that I bought when new and now has 52,000 miles. I've always had a soft spot for Yamahas so I'm very interested in this new Super Tenere. I will need a test ride since I'd like an engine as smooth as the triple on my Tiger. Can anyone speak to the vibration or lack thereof on the parellel twin in the Tenere?

Yeah, I'd say an s10 would round you out nicely. Maybe add a cruiser too for good measure. :D

Hi there Brooks, in reply to your question on engine vibration, I have found a definite shudder when you apply the herbs hard without selecting a lower gear first, but thats probably to be expected with a big twin. Apart from that I have found no vibration to speak of, the gearing is pretty tall so you have to get used to changing down before playing boy racer.

Thanks Caveman, that's good to hear.

Most any engine will shudder if it's lugged down low. I was more concerned about vibration or buzziness at higher rpms, the sort of thing you find on many inline 4 cylinder engines.

For example, the last twin I had, a 2004 BMW R1150RT would vibrate noticably as the engine speed increased to 5000rpms and above. So I would cruise between 3500 and 4500 rpm. My Tiger, which is a triple, is smooth all the way to
6500 rpms and I regularly cruise between 4000 and 5500rpm.

Here are the other motos currently in the garage of Sr. Papa Chuy en El Barrio del Chandler, AZ:

1996 BMW R1100GS, "Mi Mexico Mule", 111,000 miles.

2001 Harley-Davidson FXD, "Pam Anderson", 18,000 miles.

2003 Yamaha FJR1300, "Miss Lucy Liu", 42,000 miles

2005 BMW R1150RT, "Ingrid", 39,000 miles.

2009 BMW F650GS Twin, "Salma Hayek", 13,000 miles.

I'm still trying to decide on the name for my new Tenere, considering "La Poderosa Diabla Negra", Powerful Black She-Devil; or may go for something simple, like "Consuela" or "Leticia"!

I always name mi motos, my 1984 H-D FLH Shovelhead, sold at 212,000 miles, was "Big Red".

Current garage mates:

2006 R1-LE, best looking sportbike EVER, ridden only on Sundays, at the track

2006 FJR 1300, incredible all round goodness and comfort

2008 KTM 300 XC-W, does it all in any terrain, really light, fast and torquey, e-start too!

2009 R1, all gussied up like my 06 with Ohlins front and rear, Akrapovic, gold Marchesinis, absolutely the best sounding bike I've ever heard, quite fast too! Yellow of course, will have its first track visit to Barber this fall

2009 Zuma 125, I ride this little gem more than I should admit, I bought it for the wife but I think I own about 80% of the mileage. Oh, it's yellow, I got bitten by the Yamaha bumblebees early in life

I've had way too many bikes over the years to list. I did just sell the love of my life to get the ST. It was an 2005 MT-01 ... what a beautiful beast. It is the biggest regret of my life .... not that I prefer it to the ST just that I nver thought I'd sell her :'( I think that I might just buy another one in a couple of years time. For our fellow compatriots back in the good ol US of A .... that's another fantastic bike that you never got.

Hi Swagger, I've also got a 2006 MT-01. That is one bike that I really love and I do not think I will ever sell it. I am still regretting that I sold my 1977 XT 500 and I am not going to make the same mistake. There are just certain bikes that are so special and you will only know it if you’ve own one. I love my ST, but will always have a special soft spot for my MT-01.

I currently have 10 bikes in the stable. 2 gl1800's, Kaw zx14, kaw z1000, Yamaha FZ1, FJR, roadlinerS, Suzuki DL1000, and 2 DL650's. I plan to try to sell the roadliner, and Dl1000, to make room for the super T.
It's been a joy having these machines, but only wish our riding season here in South Dakota was a little longer! Paying the insurance for all these in the winter sucks!!!
