What does a 6 gal fill look like?

I put three punch holes in the filler baffle yesterday and topped off this morning. Wow, what an improvement! So quick and easy to trickle fill. I don't know why I did not do this sooner.

A dumb question. How do you punch holes in the filler neck without getting metal crud in the tank?
You punch a hole, it is not drilled. The metal peals back with no debris. I used an old sharpened Phillips screw driver to start it and a center punch to finish it. I did put a rag in the filler neck and blew it out when finished. The rag also keeps the gas from splashing when hitting the punch.

around Central Texas my 2019 says I average 43 mpg . at 200 miles I need a gas stop . lots of choices here , but go west young man and its a different world . so paying attention to ones milage is very important . when I traveled to Moab to meet Mak10 I was amused and confused and not certain my bike was right , as the altitude increased so did my mpg. so I would stop as my normal milage as indicated on the odometer says I should . a very lessor amount would fill the bike ... never really noticed a power issue as I was in travel mode , bike always seemed normal . and on the return trip the inverse happened ... and it had me a bit confused about how far I could go . missed a gas stop in a small Texas town (I can make the next town ) turned into am I going to make it at all . going way farther on a tank than I have ever been ,pulled up to the first gas pump I could find and added 5,5 gallons to the bike . twice on trips I've pushed it in the 250 range and made it to the next gas station , cant say I like doing that . going a bit slower helps the mpg especially when fuel is a bit dicey . the bike has always gotten me there . and I have learned a few things.

How much extra fuel goes in with the holes in the filler neck?

Reason I ask is on my new to me '23 I hit the fuel flashing light and estimated mileage to empty was dropping faster than expected and when the countdown to empty started I was nursing it to the gas station where I put in 5 gallons. So I might have had some extra or might not, don't know how much was really left.

I like the idea of the two holes in the upper side when on the kickstand, but how much does that really add?

In general, many people say "I could only put 5 gallons in it". There are two possible reasons / variables.

fuel added = total capacity - fuel remaining - unfilled void.

5g = 6.1g - x - y

Tough to solve with two unknowns. You could get x to equal zero but who wants to run out of gas? y could vary a bit in real life but solving for y could really help with learning about future fuels, usage, DTE, etc. We all know the S10 display of DTE and MPG aren't to be trusted.

I have a hard time watching that low fuel trip odo increase. Many have said they go 40+ on that odo but with our MPGs varying so much it might be a lofty goal. My record is 272 on a tank and showing 40.1 on the low fuel odo. I'd been going easy for the first 170 and then for the last 100 miles I knew I was in gas station trouble and nursed the hell out of it.

I do a bit of highway LD riding and know no bike will have the range of my subaru but I find myself getting concerned at 200 miles. Wish it was just a bit more.

All that to say I'm not really sure. :) But definitely a good effort:benefit ratio.

My opinion not much advantage with the extra holes because if you fill it that full gas will start coming out the overflow hose and dripping on the ground. If your really worried about running out of gas probably a better idea to just carry some extra gas in another container.

Two good points. I only superfill as I exit for a ride that's at least 15 miles. That is, I don't superfill then go inside and shop, eat, etc.
I recommend Giant Loop Armadillo fuel bags. I have two of the 1- gallon bags

It isn't so much getting more in, it's your ability to do it more quickly. I tended to run out a patience waiting for the pressure to equalize and the fuel to drop in the neck. Some pumps are worse trickling fuel to top it off, so the holes make it more accommodating for a quicker pump. As stated by others, you do need to be careful about over filling unless you are riding off. I did put two of the holes on the right side and 1 at ~10:00. I will use either stand when fueling.

Late to the party, but aren’t you guys concerned about making a spark when punching a hole?
maybe it’s brass, or something similar; I hope so

I was not, but that said, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
With the right tools and technique there is constant contact. The tank metal is relatively soft and it is fairly slow as the punch enlarges the hole. I suppose Jay Leno would lubricate the punch with gasoline first...
