The other half once lived in Aix-en-Provence and wants to take her (grown) kids this September so looks like I'll probably be there for at least a couple weeks. Plenty of bike rentals are in the Provence area and when her kids are there she's cool with my taking a week or so to wander east along the coast then up to the Guzzi museum, visit an old colleague in that area, and then Stelvio pass and some of the lesser known passes. Always wanted to ride the Croatian cost but doubt there'll be time. Riding solo means no real itinerary, just want to hit at least those key spots and I know that part of the coasts are beautiful.

I live north east of Italy , in a small town called Arsiero....
If you aren't too far I will come over to introduce myself if you like it...

I'll be in touch closer to the date. I don't post much about my rides otherwise we could have already met up. I stayed last October for a week in Longarone and last May one week due south of Innsbruck near the Italian border.

Longarone & Innsbruck are about a couple of hours , maybe little more, from where I live...
Sure thing, if you come over it would be nice to meet up!

My plan would be to go Istanbul in 2025....
I would zig zag through Austria, Slovenia Croatia Bosnia Montenegro Kosovo Macedonian Albania Greece Turkey Romania Hungary Austria and finally back to my hometown....
I have been to Croatia and Slovenia before but only briefly so I need to go back and ride more.
I don't know why Istanbul has been attracting me for so long, but I know I have to go ....
No reason beside I believe is one of the city one has to see before it's too late lol.
I also want to go to ride on Tranfagarasan and Transalpina that seem to be very beautiful spots.
On the other hand I was " forced" to find a new job, twice, in the last 6 months so I don't know how many days off I would be entitled this summer....
We'll see...
I might go in 2026.... hopefully not

A Policeman I know rode his BMW GS 1200 down through the Balkans into Macedonia and Albania in 2020.He was stopped 3 times by the police in two days for speeding in Macedonia, and he was not speeding.Everytime he was stopped they demanded €100 in cash from him,and if he would not pay his bike would be taken off him.He said if the police in the UK did this, they would lose their job and go to jail.

I hope this has improved some for 2025. I'll be riding there for 5 days with a homebase on Mavrovo Lake.

My Police officer friend said it was bad enough that the Macedonian police saw the UK number plate and saw him as easy money. But by showing them his police id this made no difference and they were aggressive with the way they demanded his cash.

Cold season is usually the time I start thinking about summer bike trips and start planning stuff. So far though…….nothing is pencilled in! Early thoughts are Spain & Portugal, as I’ve never been to Portugal. I think a mate is keen to do the Dolomites and perhaps Lake Bled. We’re meeting early next month to decide.

What about you lot? Where you going on the bike this summer?
Dolomites it is! Probably late August, heading down through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria.

I’m not going to risk any trips abroad this year the old ticker is playing up. But I’m doing a Rapid UK course, the ADV festival, Nick Sanders Festival and a Dyno day in the UK so far and I’ll find other stuff to keep me busy. Getting close to retirement again now so I’ve got to change my mindset
