Weird tyre wear

I was planning on the Anakee 3's for my next set of tires but I'm kind of worried about that now. If all dual compound tires do that how come I never got that on the dual compounds on my sport tourer?

Is there a reason my Tenere would make this happen more than my 6th gen VFR800?

Only happens with dual compound, and depends greatly on how much flat riding done. Sad but true that it is normal. maybe not sad really, all that ugly rubber in the center band in the old days would simply be gone, on these "bad" tires, and that is thousands and thousands, discussed on every forum with big heavy bikes, bad means you are still riding, while "good, normal" wear would mean tire was bald. :)
Is the Tourance exp a dual compound?

The PR3 Trails are supposed to be dual compound and at 6700 miles, I show nothing resembling that wear pattern. At 41/33 my rear tire is squaring off like a normal tire due to all the straight line roads I have to ride to get anywhere around here.

I'm wondering exactly the same thing. From the looks of it, I think under inflation is causing the tire to spend more time on the "softer" side of the tire, hence the accelerated wear. I have no experience with that particular tire but am tempted to try a set, and you can bet I will have at least 35 psi in the front.

I ran the front at 38 psi. 5 more than recommended. Common sense tells me that if over inflated it will, for the most part, run on the middle "ridge" of the tire, which should then wear off first. On this tire the sides seems to have worn off first. Even if it is dual compound it would mean that i would have had to expose the whole tire (sides and middle) to equal wear, but the middle was harder and thus formed the ridge. BUT, where i live there are no twisties..... no mountains........ flat and straight. So to clarify my point - in order for the ridge to get exposed i would have to wear off the sides - which i did not, and i over inflated which should cause the middle to wear off first. on my pic you can still see the little rubber knobbies on the sides which tells me it never saw pavement.

Yes, I looked at your pic again - nubs still there. Just plain weird tire wear. I have no idea what's going on. Must be those Anakee's, since others have reported strange wear also. I also wonder if the rake and trail of our bikes used to accommodate a 19" front tire has something to do with it. Beyond my pay grade to figure out.

I am no expert in tires. But squarebore got the same wear on the stock tires at 31psi. So by the simple process of elimination i come to the conclusion that tire pressure may not be the cause. Maybe we have something wrong with our front ends like suspension setup or something else. I did not see this wear on my stockers at the same 38psi pressure. I did crank up the back shock to help out with the load of my panniers with the anakees. On the stock tires i adjusted nothing on the suspension and also never carried a load with them.

Who knows. Ride more and worry less!!! ::022::

I was excited to get the MA3 tires installed. The first 1,000 were fine. They handled and rode well on asphalt but did not like dirt/gravel but it is a 90/10 tire. The wear issue is a major concern of mine. For me it causes poor handling through asphalt corners. Getting in and out of these corners is like having a squared off rear tire on the front. There are too many other tires available for me to deal this tire. I will not be installing MA3 again (unless they make a compound and construction adjustment). Front tires should be round.

I had the same pattern on my Tourance EXP after a total of 6,000kms which included a 5,500km trip to the South Island. Bike was solo rider and full panniers.

Friend on a GS, had the exact same pattern.

Very interesting. Seems to be normal then if loaded? Maybe a suspension issue then....
