Was wondering if 14kmtnman or any of the usual suspects are planning a ride for Saturday, April 11?

Ankle is way better, so anxious since I didn't really ride last weekend. Although i know its been colder up the higher altitudes, not sure if they've been getting snow or not...

Do you plan rides almost every weekend in the Denver area?

Star Days is in Longmont this year and I plan to take the S10 instead of the Stratoliner for the good roads. Might there be a ride on Sunday the 19th of July?

Hey Bob, it's a good bet that in summer there will be a ride every weekend. Keep looking here and if nothing else, just post up the week before. If I'm in town I'll ride with ya.

I'm a ride whore, I'll ride with anybody lol!

Bushy - I'm glad your ankle is better. Low drag is coming over tomorrow morning to yank his wheels off for new tires. We should be ready to ride by 10:30 -11. My other buddy who just got his 14 will be coming with us too. I'm thinking we'll go up 285 have lunch at the the Kenosha Inn, then head over to Jefferson then past TerryAll to Goose Creek rd (the same road from the other side where we got stopped by snow & mud with Red Mark & the Triumph) & back thru Deckers/Sedalia. We might sneek in a trail or 2. PM me & I'll send my address if you want to go with us.

Even an old fat guy! Wow.

Actually I would love to ride some of the roads I did in a cage in the Springs area when I was at Ft Carson 1972-3. In the winter I drove a cage on lots of them. Had a 550 Honda that took me to the top of Pikes Peak, but that was mostly road only (other than the peak which as I remember was not paved at all!)

What a fun day today! My new tires made the ST feel like a different bike. I don't think I've ever traveled a twisty gravel road so fast!

I'm going to head out in the AM on a curvy road close to home to work the pavement a bit more. I'm as pleased with the pavement performance as I am on gravel.

Hope that ankle heals up and stays that way!

Thanks!

How were the off-road sections on Goose Creek? Muddy? Snowy? Better than our first time through (attempt)?

Which tires did you get?

Because of timing, we changed the route a bit. We turned off 285 at Bailey & took the Stoney Pass road that went by Wellington Lake & wound up on Goose Creek Rd. Then went down thru Deckers & Sedalia. There were 2 water crossings, a little bit of damp road, but no icy/muddy stretaches. We have to break in my buddies new Tenere properly ::26:: ::001::. Kelly was beside himself, laughing the whole way once we hit the gravel. ::013:: ::025:: actually more like ::015:: ::018::. He can't wait to get his skid plate & crash bars, so he can start hitting more trails.

Cool, I think those items are "must haves" if you go off-road…

I wound up taking a friend on a road-ride (Ducati) so he can break in his bike (S1000RR). Deer Creek to Turkey Creek over to Pine then down Deckers all the way to Manitou Springs then back 105 by Palmer Lake.

Unfortunately we saw a big touring bike on its side with emergency crew around the rider over by Woodland Park…

Also saw another S10 up at Conifer. Looked like a Matte Grey '14. Never saw the rider. Although the reminded me of "Red Mark" but I think Red Mark has an ES and this was not…

I got the Shinko 705s. I noticed the difference in my first tight turn coming out of a stop sign. The 705 profile is more rounded Vs the K60's more square profile. The 705s felt much more secure on pavement and surprisingly gravel & clay trails. I'm shocked the 705s feel more secure on the trails than the K60s. I guess it's the rounded profile that gives me a larger contact patch with the ground. They are rated for a max psi of 42. I ran the back tire at 40 and front at 38. I think I'm going to knock them down 2 psi each and take them out to Riverdale Rd shortly.

Going up 285 yesterday we saw about 10 ::019:: before getting to Conifer. They are starting to patrol it much more on MC'S. 3 or 4 were bike mounted.

To answer your question.... Yes sir, there is a group that gets out nearly every weekend from the Denver area. I'm pretty sure we'll ride on Saturday/Sunday July 18th or 19th. We typically meet on the west side in Golden or Morrison, sometimes near Rocky Flats. The warmer it gets the earlier we meet up.

"Red Mark," eh? I guess I can live with that... LOL. How you doing Vanderwho? I think we could change it to your forum handle. ::008:: ::003:: Have you made any decisions on the bike armor?

After seeing the photos of the Ténéré rider augering in on the Dragon, and knowing the relative levels of my interest in canyon-carving vs. ...mud-slinging... I think I'll keep what ground- and cornering-clearance I've got, and curb my off-pavement enthusiasm somewhat. Will save more bruised ribs, too. :'(

Vanderwho - You had bruised ribs too? Other than the slippery slimy mud you seemed to be doing well on the dry gravel. Keep an eye out on the forum, we might come up with a ride or 2 that is mostly pavement. You can always tag along on some of the longer rides (hwy) that are planned & not do the dirt part. You are always welcomed ::008::
