The mods i've made so far

So, having done the introductions in the general discussions, here's some pictures of the modifications i've done so far:

The first thing i wanted to change was the rear rack, i do a fair bit of weekend touring with wife and camping gear and didn't trust the plastic item, so this is a Zega rack bought through Touratech, a really nice sutrdy bit of kit:

I went with some handlebar risers to help with the comfort, these are 20mm risers:

Then i quickly learnt how much crud comes off the front wheel and how far it goes, so i fitted a fender extender from Pyramid Plastics:

I felt that the standard exhaust was a little too quiet and that it would sound fantastic with a different can. I looked at several options, i simply didn't like the look of the LeoVinci can, the Akraprovic was too much money, the MiVV didn't look good enough for me, i really liked the Remus Hexacone and had good reports from another UK S10 owner but the lines of the can were wrong in relation to the exhaust cover, so i went with an Arrow silencer. I'm really pleased with it, the sound is great, the lines are right and it is one of the few that direct the exhaust away from the indiciators. I'm runing with the baffle in, haven't tried it removed yet.

The final mod is to run a 12V supply to under the seat, i tapped into the switched supply from the power outlet and have a connector under the seat. I can then plug a variety of different things into this, i have aother power socket, and a loom with 4mm banana plug sockets for my heated gloves. My aim here was to have another source for charging my mobile phone on the move.

I've also ordered a Calsci screen which should be here this week.

Let me know if you want to know any more about any of these.

I would be curious to hear your comments on the CalSci screen after you get it. Also, your height and what size screen you bought.

BTW, the Arrow can looks nice!!!

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that the arrow can did wonders for increasing mid range power, really noticeable. The calsci screen arrived today so I'll get some pictures and first impressions up at the end of the weekend.

So, first thoughts on the Calsci screen, but first some statistics:

I'm 6ft 7in, and weigh in at 20stone, i ride with the seat on the high setting and have 20mm handlebar risers.

The screen i ordered was the XL screen, it's fitted on the 'low' setting, i've travelled at speeds upto 70mph on the road (and about 85mph but clearly not on a public road)

Here it is fitted:

The positives:
> I can see over the screen still, it does not intrude into my line if sight
> It has eliminated the buffetting and reduced noise to a level that makes riding much more relaxed.
> At motorway speed it remains a very comfortable and acceptably quiet experience
> I can hear the engine more clearly so know wha't going on down there
> I don't feel isolated and still feel the air to help get an idea of speed - i was worried about feeling like i was in a bubble of still air - it's just right

The negatives:
> The cut outs for the nadlebar guards are too low as my bars are raised, it does not actually bit the guards on full lock but is very close:

Overall, i am very pleased with this modification, i was a bit unsure but went with it for it (an expensive test) - but is has improved the bike and the riding experience.

Hi Simon, is your Arrow a slip-on or full exhaust with arrow headers? I know they have a full system, but have not seen just a slip-on? I like the look of it.

Simon welcome aboard and thank you for the Cal Sci review. I'm also interested in this shield as a replacement to stock. Did you happen to do the measurement method that Cal Sci has on their website or did you go by their chart for height and inseam to pick your size shield? Also I guess you know this already and it may not be worth your trouble but you can mark your shield where it needs to be modded to fit around the hand guards and Cal Sci will cut it for you. Of course you have to send the thing back for them to do so. This is sort of troubling that the shield is impacted by the riser blocks can you still use all the adjustment holes on the shield with the riser blocks installed? I know you stated you are at the low setting now. Thanks, Vince

Good review!!! While there is a huge difference in your height from mine, perhaps a shorter CalSci would benefit me as well on the SuperT. I have one on my FJR and am very pleased with is.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the reviews. I really like the rack and exhaust.

As for the power plug, if you simply spliced into the wire for the provided plug, be aware that the fuse is only good for 3 amps. That's enough for your phone and most GPS units, but not enough for heated gear turned to high settings. A relayed source for aux power would work much better.

Just the slip on for me at the moment, there is a thread talking about a PC V with dyno charts for full system vs slip on, reading that i'll probably spend the money on a PC V before a full pipe.

Never did play Rugby - as a sport it doesn't use enough petrol for me to be interested! And yes, scooter like with me on, but everything is, at least i've moved on from my Honda CB100N......

Hi Vince - i didn't use either method, when i phoned the importer here in the UK he was crystal clear there was only one size screen for me, it is was the height/inseam table would have selected though.

Thanks for the information, i was aware of the limit, my gloves are only 2 Amps (which is pretty good really).

Thanks Simon. The Arrow is on my list as a possibility along with Wasp and Akra. Thanks.
