Tenere virgin from North West England

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm semi retired and originally from Liverpool, on the west coast of England, now living out in the 'sticks' of west Lancashire. I have recently ordered a 2014 Super Tenere and expect to collect it next week. I've gone for the standard version in blue, with a centre stand, heated grips, panniers, rack and spot lamps. I'm hoping to fit an Altrider engine bar soon. I've spent some time lurking on this website and have gleaned some very useful information which helped me to decide buying the S10.

I have swapped a 2011 (my second) Moto Guzzi NTX for the Yam, no problems with the Guzzi, I just fancied change and didn't need or want the 150bhp of a Multistrada or KTM (or the potential reliability issues). The Tenere will be my main bike, but I also have a 1990 BMW R100gs and a 2000 Triumph 900 Trophy. The Tenere will be the fourth Yamaha I have owned, the first one being in 1974 a 50cc FS1E, then in 1976 an RD400, and then in 2004 I had an XT225 Serow. Most of my other bikes over the last 40 years have been Hondas, BMWs and Harleys, with the occasional Norton and Triumph. I did own a 2002 BMW R1150gs for six years, a great bike and swapped it for my first 2009 Stelvio.

I was very impressed on the test ride of the Tenere, its a bit smoother than the Guzzi, and feels a lot lighter due to the lower centre of gravity, plus I can get both feet flat on the ground. I like the build quality of the Tenere and its apparent simplicity (that's one reason why I liked the Stelvio). I've got the Tenere lined up for a two week trip to the French and Swiss alps in July, a week touring southern Ireland with my wife in May, and my annual tour of the Scottish highlands in October.
I don't do much trail riding now apart from exploring the odd track when I've been in the Alps and Dolomites. I used to use my XT225 for the more serious and local stuff some years ago. I find these big Trail/adventure bikes a bit big for me on the rough terrain.

I hope I can be a positive contributor to this forum, thanks for listening :)

Hi Midlife, thanks for the welcome. You have some fantastic motorcycling country in your neck of the woods. I'm a fairly regular visitor up there, we love Alnick, Bamburgh and coastline. I have friends living in Hexham, and my son works/lives in Alston. In fact about 17 years ago we very nearly moved to the village of Wall near to Hadrian's Wall, but my wife's job offer fell through :(

::004:: Scouse! I am a former Stelvio owner as well (2009 non-NTX) which I had for about 3 1/2 years. I very much liked the Guzzi until the electrical system started giving me fits. After a series of breakdowns on a long trip, I traded it in for my 2012 Super Tenere, which has been a stalwart companion for the past year and a half. No drama. No hiccups. No breakdowns. The Super Ten is hands down the best motorcycle I have ever owned. I am sure you will be happy with yours.

Cheers,

Bruce

Hi Bruce I remember you posting on the 'GuzziTech' forum. I used to post under a different name there (fatal)

Scouse is my alter ego. People from Liverpool are usually referred to as 'Scousers', pronounced 'scowsir' :)

Well, hello again, fatal! I remember you well from the GuzziTech forum. There are a number of Guzzisti "expats" on this forum. Forum member 2112, from Northumberland, who also posted above in this string, was on the SquadraGuzzista list, as well as GuzziTech. Small world, isn't it?

Best regards,

Bruce
