So what's the proper pronunciation of Tenere? I've been saying:

te-near

But with the accent marks I can see it being pronounced something like:

te-ner-ray

Or maybe even:

tay-nay-ray

I hope it's not the last one. hehehe. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Every video I've seen about it uses the second pronunciation. I said it the first way though as well until I heard it pronounced the other way. Perhaps the last one is how the Australians say it? ;D Where's Caveman when you need him...

It's my understanding that the pronunciation is similar to resume, ten-new-ray. I personally like S10 :)

I heard it pronounced "Ten-nair-ray" by someone with a French accent.

I hope my dealer is wrong when he pronounced it "Tenary"!

The only reason I will not be calling this fine Japanese work of art an S10, is so i won't insult it. First thing many think of when saying S10 is Chevrolet's Piece O' Sheeet Truck, and that isn't happening from me!!! So, to maintain the image of my new motorcycle to be.....she shall be called "Ten uh Ray"!!! See you soon my pretty!!!!

Thanks for posting that sgoat. As I read through this thread, I was just about to track down that link so glad to see, by the time I finished the thread, that you beat me to it. This seems to get discussed a lot so hopefully that link will spread far and wide and help put an end to the incorrect pronunciation. As the link says, the first syllable, Ten, has the primary emphasis. Lot's of folks walking around in the U.S. saying Ten-air'-ee, pronounced like canary, so hopefully we can nip that in the bud before it gets out of hand and before the bikes hit the U.S. dealerships around May 2011. I think some dealers will even need a bit of education on the name. Some are, unfortunately, already making up a pronunciation without simply taking the time to ask or find out.
