I know the speedo is optimistic but is the odometer as well? I thought that had to be accurate by law....
The odometer is very accurate. I understand if you fit a speedo healer you will correct the speedo but the odo will under read. Not an issue for me as I over service anyway.

My speedo is about 7% out to the sat-nav, the odo is within 2%.

That 2% can easily be down to how the sat nav calculates mileage as well, just so many factors, on a bumpy road your wheel will go up and down adding distance over what the sat-nav will see, as do hills, and riding round corners which is an arc.

Even two sat navs on the same bike can disagree slightly on miles covered over a long days riding.
