I washed bike like usual and speedometer (speed only) stopped working. It worked sporadically so I
thought once it dried off it would be ok. Nope. Error code says its not getting wheel speed so I turned
it over to dealer. There book doesn't tell them how to test rear wheel sensor so there trying to get more
information from Yamaha. Bikes got 45,000 miles, 2012 model, and all other functions on speedometer works.
Any body had this problem?

Never had this problem. I would immediately 1)check sensor for dirt and 2) if the problem persists try disconnecting battery terminals and connecting again.

Speedohealer died :(
All is back to normal. Dealer also disconnected gear indicator. It was working even with speedo issue
so I'll will probably try to reconnect it.

The speedohealer goes in series with the wiring from the sensors; therefore if it dies the probability is that there would be a break in the speedo circuit. On the other hand, the gear indicator goes in parallel and does not interfere with any circuit. In fact, the gear indicator can be connected using positaps without cutting any wire.
