sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I just picked up a 2018 ST. It has a Puig screen but The little winglet deflectors were removed...do these really help? if so, where to get some? Yamaha dealer?

was hoping I would be happy with the Puig, but the factory bracket system is weak...I had test rode a 2016 with Madstad system and wind was non - existent! maybe too much so

thoughts? is there a link to another thread that I should be looking at?

The winglets make a significant difference……….as in improvement.

My bike came with them (8 years ago), I did about 120 miles without them once, as I’d removed them while doing some maintenance. I was shocked at the increase in noise and effect the wind had.

I got my bike brand new on April and did not come with the small air deflectors...so I got them from revzilla......Do they help? I would say yes, the work together with the main windshield.

I got mine new last year and upgraded with a Puig screen, some dislike the distortion caused by the notches in the screen but it doesn't bother me. At the same time I added that, I added the wind deflectors and Ladlesport ADV (great forum vendor) windscreen support brackets, doing all of them at the same time was an insane difference vs stock. I live in Atlanta so getting out of the city and into the twisties takes some highway riding and everyone around here drives 80, so riding at speed with the stock screen and no supports/winglets resulted in a ton of buffeting of both the screen and my helmet. With the upgrades it feels totally different, I can get up to about 85 with zero screen or helmet buffeting. Of course, when the energy that previously caused the buffeting gets absorbed by the mounting points of the supports etc, it gets transferred to the bike itself, so at higher speeds you won't see the screen move but you'll feel the bike move a bit under you. Since there's more mass it's less noticeable, but you will never defeat physics.

Will the 2012 winglets fit a 2016?
To make them fit all you have to do is cut a little off the front, I learned that from another board member and it saved me a bunch of money. Don’t remember exactly how much I cut off but think it was about 1 1/2 inch, 2012-2013 deflectors have a mounting hole drilled in the front 2014+ don’t have that extra hole. I used a Harbor Freight air operated cutoff tool to cut mine , the tool was designed to cut steel so it was very easy.

Did same with OEM leftovers from my '12. Trimmed to match the new contour with a Dremel and cut-off wheel. Finished edge with slight bevel and polish. Done.

I actually fitted early ones to my 2020 before I knew there were different versions. But I run a givi airflow screen which is mark1, ditching the adjustable screen bracket, so I guess my bikes a mark1 now as far as the screen is concerned.
