Hey Reddog just something to think about have you checked your riding position out? I was having bad shoulder pain on this bike and my last one a Zuki M109 and tried h-bar risers and different seats. Come to find out I was sitting too far back, was tensing up my shoulders, not keeping a slight bend at my elbows and not keeping them tucked in and not keeping my legs against the tank. After making some body adjustments my pain is gone but you have to make a conserted effort to ride this way all the time. Once you start slouching or leaning back the pain starts to return. I did add risers and a BMS seat to my XT but really changing my riding position helped most with the pain. The seat was more for backside comfort riding everyday.

Thanks pqsqac for the tips,I have tried adjusting my riding position, different positions on the seat, adjusting the seat low, high ,moving the handlebars up,back.i took a 170 mle ride testerday, when i got home i ended up taking 8 Advil, now 4 more this morning & i'm still hurting ::010::,not as bad as yesterday, but hurting.i'm going to Ga.& Tenn in a week & am really dreading the ride!!I have never had a bike do this to me before, :'( BTW,When i bought the bike it had Rox Risers on it,1" up 1" back.Took those off thinking it would help,I think if this seat mod dosent work i will probally try an aftermarket seat.Anybody want to chime in on this,PLEASE do so.I am open to suggestions,And i DONT want to sell This GREAT Bike!!

I think Pqsqac has the right idea. This bike was very hard for me to setup. I had pain in my neck and between my shoulder blades.
I still contend that for some of us, bringing the bars back and together more will solve most of these issues.
I like to sit upright with a good amount of bend in my elbows, and those in close to my body.
I can only achieve part of that with risers. Bringing my elbows in close to my body has not been as easy, unless I sit on the front of the seat and hug the tank, and that brings up other problems. ::025::

I have not problem with the Ergo's on this bike for me, but I have noticed on the ST is that the bars are much wider than any other bike I have had. Just thinking about having your arms forced wider and what that would do to your shoulders.

Came across this site somewhere on the Forums. You can compare different bikes and make adjustments for seat height, bar risers etc,

It is a really cool website, but it looks like that only shows you a side view. For the ST, a top view would be helpful, since the bars are roto-tiller wide, much wider than anything I have ridden before. I think this is where alot of the discomfort some are experiencing originates.

Hey Steve,I went out & checked My BMW 04 GSA And they are the same width. It sounded like that could be the issue, but its not.I went out for a ride today,And made a conscience effort to sit up straighter and hold my Elbws closer to my body.I will have to do a longer ride onmonday & see if it helps.I'll let you all know. Thanks again for the ideas.

Good to know. Not a 'new' BMW guy myself...the older stuff though is ::008:: Always lusted after my brother-in-laws R100RS

How is the angle of the GSA bars compared to the ST? Some of the Japanese bike handlebars have really 'odd' angles that end up putting your wrists and therefore your arms & shoulders at unnatural angles. My buddys 1250 Bandit was really bad in this regard. Just a suggestion.

I hate to throw something out that might be too simplistic as it seems you've done a bit of adjusting, but...

I had shoulder pain when I first got the Tenere - and the fix for me seemed quite opposite of most who put risers on. I simply rotated the bars toward me about an inch in the standard clamp. It moved the bars a hair closer and lower and into a very natural position for me. 610 mile day two weeks ago with zero shoulder, arm, or neck pain.

I have started to ride with a Kidney belt. I tend to slump. I had a Riders backrest on my HD and that solved my posture issue. Did a 10 day trip recently and noticed the difference when I forgot to put the belt on. I bought the Fox Racing Black belt.

Had the same shoulder/ neck pain issues with my bike. It didn't matter if I was sitting on the normal seat or the low OEM seat. The bars are too far away from me, and I was riding with no bend in my elbows. I was ok on short rides, but anything over 90 minutes was pushing my limit.

Like others here, I decided to get a set of the 1 inch Roxrisers. I was a little late, and ended up on the backorder list. I then went with a set of 25mm risers from SW-Motech hoping they'd work. That little 25mm change was enough and I've had no issues since then.
