Below is an official release from the owner and President of Sargent Cycle Products, Mark Todd:

Regarding Super Tenere mid-production changes. We have been made aware of two issues that have been commented on, and our R&D team have made mid production adjustments to address these. The first, having to do with the firmness of the foam. While firm support is part of any quality seat and preferred by many riders, we have made adjustments to soften the foam without compromising suspension quality. The second is to address two complaints that were received about the seat slipping off the high position under load and heat. After extensive investigation, we have made changes to the base pan support rubber bumper components to prevent this unlikely occurrence. For customers with early release units, a simple, easy to install retrofit kit is available free of charge.

Glad to hear that the foam was updated to something less brutal for my tender spine. I tried one and returned it after 2 weeks. Great shape, outstanding quality but just too darn stiff. Looks like I will be reordering!!

I just shipped mine back on Tuesday and was not told about a softer foam when I got a return authorization. What have you done to change the foam? How much softer are we talking about?

I am pre-registered for the discount, but I don't want to order until I'm sure these early issues have been resolved and worked out. Saves us both time and money in shipping stuff out, having it returned, etc. I've had a bunch of Sargent seats in the past, and I want one for Super Ténéré, but I also don't want to be disappointed by these early production glitches.

Thank you for your customer support. I'm still on the fence and am relieved to see that you are actively reviewing and addressing feedback on the seats.

I'm glad I have until 12/31/12 to decide on buying one or not.

"I am not sure how to convey an answer to your "how much softer" question and get it across to you understandabily. Differrent peoples idea of soft and hard varies widely as a matter of taste and perception. The process is a simple formual change when the foams are blown here at our location.

You we not notified of the change because we didn't release the information to the sales staff untill today.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was a well made seat but just too firm. I'm a bit gun shy to try it again after shipping charges back and forth once already. We'll see. Thanks for the extension on the discount.
