I'll be picking-up my SA (South Africa) spec bike here in Japan this weekend (S10 is not a Japanese domestic mark bike). Apparently, the SA spec bike is what YSP Japan imports through their agent (Presto corp).

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone here knows what the differences are between the SA and U.S. spec S10.

Thanks!

The Euro bikes at least used to have the following differences:
Color options
Electronic engine control allowing use of regular gas
Flash to pass switch on left handlebar
Lights may vary by country or region
Used to have exhaust without US EPA acceptance text stamped in, but this may've changed.

-I am interested if the North American model has the same wiring as the Euro model. If so we should be able to buy the Euro light switch and get Flash To Pass and Emergency Flashers.
-Emissions most likely is per Region.

I am guessing that the wiring is the same cuz I read where some of the European guys who were changing to LED turn signals noted that the blue running light wire was included on the turn signal wiring harness, even though the European bike turn signals are not set up to operate as running lights. It would be cool if we could just order a left side handle bar switch set from yamabits and get hazard lights and flash to pass.

The missing flash to pass and four way flashers was one of the first things I noticed on the bike on the ride home when the first car wanted to turn left in front of me.
My Vee had both and I did use the high beam flash to alert oncoming traffic. (also works good to let oncoming traffic of radar traps you have just passed)
Have checked a demo. Euro version that was at the local dealer and it had them.
Looked into it and at this point the dealer may have a problem ordering the left hand switch as it is not listed for the NA bikes.
They seem to feel it would be a direct plug into the stock harness.
The one on our bikes lists for around $50.00 the other is apparently about $170.00 here in Canada.(were always happy to pay more)
Might have to learn to live without it. :( Minor oversight on a otherwise great bike.

I went through this with the FJR and while the Euro/NA bikes seemed so similar, there was a difference in harness connectors for the left switch cluster. I had to use the front half of the Euro switch cluster and splice the wires about 2" down the handlebar.

This was years ago and the new cluster was something like 170 Euros, so cutting the wires really was not what I wanted to do. I was fortunate to find a switch cluster in a German salvage yard for a lot less.

I really miss that switch and hope that the cluster for the new bike won't have this difference. I'll be in France in a few weeks and check.

Thanks for all of the info! It appears that 'SA spec' = 'Euro Spec' because everything you guys are describing is on my bike. The only thing I'm not sure about is the electronics that allow burning of regular grade fuel...the bike probably doesn't have that because there is the standard warning sticker in on the tank (soon to be removed!).
