Last November I noticed the rear wheel spokes had tarnished / rusting so went to the dealers to get them sorted under warranty.they wanted to replace them with the same yamaha spoke. But I asked if I paid the difference to have stainless steel ones fitted . So the wheel was sent off to hagons in london England to get rebuilt with new spokes. 11 months and 3000 miles later ive just got back from a 1600 mille ride in spain. Went to clean the bike and found 2 broken spokes that I removed from the hub .tgen notice d a further 4 so 6 in total all broken off at the rim not the hub .yet all the spokes are tight.it seens the flat section that goes in to the rim have just sheard off .been in touch with hagons and are sending them the wheel to check over and to replace the missing or damaged ones. Soif you have got stainless steel spokes in your rims give them a good check over.and no I didnt ride offroad.

I do ride off road.
I had three of the stock spokes go missing (luckily no damage)
I pinged them, tightened them by sound, tie wrapped them where they cross, and put in some green loctite (2 lb holding strenght)
No issues since (20km ago)

Ole Git Ray went with Stainless. Broke the rim in a few places.

He is running at MAX load, of course. (Probably beyond)

I suspect the stainless have less "give" or more tensile strength, and thus put a heavier burden on the rim material.

I'm sticking with OEM and living with the "look"
They have not loosened in many thousands of miles after a few loosening up early on.
And yes, I pound the wheels off-road. Unavoidable.

My wheels will simply never look brand new.

I wouldn't recommend loctite on the spoke threads. They don't get "loose" because the threads are backing off, they do it because they are bedding into the softer wheel/hub and to a lesser extent stretching.

I hear you,
but they really should be done bedding in after 20 odd km...
Besides, I'm using the weakest locktite available. I refrained from using JB weld :D
Wheel is straight, to the best of my knowledge
