That would be my concern as well, especially if you are mounting a Zumo 550 which weighs close to a lb.
That's what I'm running. I'm very happy with my RAM mount that utilizes one of the bar clamp bolts.

Same here, Rod. Personally, I don't want the GPS way up at the windscreen, where it will be such a reach that I have to lean over the bars to get to the touch screen. I like it right in my line of sight centered over the bars and within easy reach. I use the shortest Ram arm, which works out fine, since I have bar risers. Without the risers, I guess the longer Ram arm would provide the same location. With it there, I can reach the touch screen without even changing my posture. Although I don't do a lot of fooling with the screen while riding, I do sometimes want to zoom in or out or other minor operations. Here are some pics with my Nuvi, that I use around home. For trips I use my 2820 that syncs its bluetooth with my Scala Rider headset and also has more info available than the Nuvi provides.

Now I personally like the GPS right up front at the windscreen because I can see it without really adverting my eyes from the road. I don't have to touch it much and use a Sena SMH10 bluetooth for the prompts, but it is a little bit more of a reach than yours.

It appears that where yours is mounted you would really have to look down to see it, but maybe that is just the perspective from the pics.

Hi Steve,

Yes, I guess I have to look down a bit, just as I have to look down to see my speedo. It is right below the speedo display, so not really out of the same perspective. If I look at my speed, I can see the GPS at the same time. I really don't have to keep a constant eye on it and can look down a bit if I want to check something, or change screens, etc. Don't have to look down nearly as far as if I have a map on my tankbag. Different preferences is all and I see no downside for me having it centered above the bars for my use. Many people like it right on top of the screen mount where they can watch it all the time and that is fine if that is what one wants.

I was battling between the easy to reach vs able to focus with my older eyes. ::001:: That's sort of a non issue now that I have a GPS with bar mounted remote scaling and volume control. All other functions I take care of while stopped for safety reasons. I kind of like the windshield postion with the SW Motech mount because it truly is 'line of sight' (no glancing downward).
