I was riding a trail yesterday and my bike started overheating. I pulled over and sit for about 10 minutes and everything was good. I though mybe it was because I was had been going really slow for several miles, but then it did it again. I noticed that the fan wasn't cycling on so I checked the fuse and it was blown. I changed it out but the fan still wouldn't work. I let it coold down and road it back to house with no issues. Once at the house I removed the cover and checked the fan. It fills like with is dragging, so I'd say it's fried. Why is the fan so damn high? Do you have to remove the tank to replace the fan?

Thanks for an help

If the bike ever drops on the left, quite often the fan will get pushed into the rad, get stuck and blow the fuse. If yours is difficult to turn and isn't hitting the rad then you need a new fan. Just remove the side panels to access the fan, but you may (or may not) have to lift the front of the tank to get to the wire connector.

Folks have adopted an FJR1300 fan to the Super Ténéré. I understand there’s some minor adapting to the Super T’s bracket or some such, but it’s evidently cheaper than the Ténéré’s part number.

yes,
same as mt-09, you buy a fjr1300 or mt-09 fan, if it comes with the mounting bracket just take that bracket off and fit the fan in the xt1200 mounting bracket
i know the guys have said the mt-09 fan fits perfectly in the xt1200 bracket

I also replaced my fan with a used R6 fan. I had to swap the connector plug and the fan from the XT1200 to the R6 fan motor. Much cheaper than an XT1200 fan and it works fine. I had the same issue; tip over to the left, pinch fan, burn out motor, burn out fuse. M
