A few months back at a rally I found that one of the lock barrels had rattled out of one of the panniers (common problem I know). As I had to get into the pannier I ended up breaking the plastic hook that holds the lid in place. Replacing the missing lock barrel is no problem as I still have the spare that Yamaha intended for the top box(which I'll never have). I thought that replacing the hook wouldn't be much of a problem either.

Well, I've been speaking to my friendly Yamaha dealer, checked on the parts list etc. He has been talking to people at Yamaha Australia and it seems that the part is not available at all, it has no part number. The only answer is another pannier it seems(and that is not going to happen).

Has anyone encountered this problem or been able to find the part elsewhere?

Al

Not completely, but somewhat related, is that I know that the OEM fog/driving lights are next to impossible to find replacement parts for. You have a rock or bird eat one of the lenses and it's tough...

Not the best news in the world for a Friday, I know, but perhaps others have had better luck than i :(

If your saddlebags become inoperable due to lock tumbler coming loose, you CAN get into the bag without destroying anything. You can unscrew the bottom 8-11 screws from underneath and remove the whole bottom of the saddlebag!!!! I know this for a FACT!!! Mine has recently done this!!

When you lose your lock along Interstate 80 in Central PA, you can get into the box EASILY!
Use a pair of small needle nose pliers and insert into the two holes in the cavity.
Twist like the key.
Viola! Open.

(Use two pens, small screw drivers, etc. Anything to turn the plate on the inside. Assuming the rubber cap did not fall inside.)

It is easy to re-key the lock cylinder also. The same needle nose pliers can pop the slides in and out of the lock assy. Swap/file to match the key.

I think I overdid the Loctite after this. The locks are in there forever! ::025::
