Any thoughts on the OEM low seat?

I purchased one and picked it up with the bike. I've done about 120 miles with the stock seat in the low setting and 120 miles with the low seat. Didn't notice any better reach to the ground with the low seat. It does seem thinner, but actually looks wider to the eye. It didn't feel as comfortable as the stock seat. If I get a chance, I'll try and get a side by side pic.

I have the low seat and lowered it further by taking out the plastic sub-frame that it sits on and cut down the rubber bumpers. I had to fabricate a new seat lock tab as well. I also had to re-shape the locator to fit deeper into its receptical

the low seat in its stock form sits at the same angle as the stock seat. the way I have modified it it is a little bit flatter

I haven't noticed a forward lean on either seat. So, can't really say yes or no to the lean.

Pics of the seats. Stock on left, OEM low on right:

Seems the low seat has been "dished" out near the front. Please excuse the neglected backyard, been preoccupied this past week.

At least you have a yard to neglect. :) I live in Texas and most of our grass has been burned out from the heat..And lack of water. :'(

Tierhawg - let me know if you want to get rid of one of the seats after you decide which you are keeping. I would like to buy one to work on.

SpeedStar,

Thanks for the interest, but I'm planning the same thing with the spare seat as a winter project.

So I was playing with my seat today ??? Noooo the seat on the bike. I saw the post on pulling the rubber bumpers and that helped a bunch then realized as posted above you could pull out the entire black rack and lower it some more. Now I have one foot flat on the ground but would like it to be lower still...ahh the short leg guys. So I can opt for the Wasp lowering links but before I do that I was real curious about the lower seat. I see from the post above that it does look dished out in the front so when stopping you can slide forward to help ge the feet on the ground. I have an Air Hawk seat pad in the garage and am looking to get that seat as low as possible to help offset the extra height of the AirHawk. I would be real curious as to anybody's road impressions of the low seat. What is the cost of the low seat from Yamaha? I might want to work on reshaping a stock seat.

toompine, we can saddle up and ride to Hollister and have lunch at the Wizard Cafe in Corbin's. Corbin's can give you an idea of what it would cost and how you want it done. The factory is open for a tour. If that doesn't work at least the food and ride is excellent.
