Hey Guys,
I've had my s10 for around six months now, and I have loved every inch of the 10,000km's I've put under her tires. However, a few weeks ago. I had an unfortunate collision with a rock wallaby. The poor little marsupial didn't survive. My s10 also suffered, a bent front left rotor resulted from the initial impact. I believe the OEM part is a galfer item. My local Yamaha mechanic has recommended aftermarket rotors as the originals are not in stock, these after market items are $60 dearer than the OEM's and I'm not sure they're any better. I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge in this area and advice as to which direction I should go in regard to OEM rotor or after market.

Cheers Guys.

I have heard that the stock rotor are Galfer items as well. I have had Galfer bits on some other bikes. No issues with them. I'd go for it.

If I could afford it I would replace both rotors and keep the good OEM rotor as a spare.

Good idea. The OEM rotors, as a pair, are around $550.00 AUD. Not as pricey as some after market items, so it looks like Yamaha have looked after us in this area. (a bit) ::003::

Are you planning on replacing just the one damaged front rotor or both?

If you get the Galfer's take a pic of them next to the OEM ones, just for comparison sake.

The only thing I would add is to make sure of the material used in aftermarket rotors. The OEM is steel. Some aftermarket rotors use cast iron because it has a better bite, but it wears much quicker. If you're buying for a bike in the ST's class, they're more likely to be steel, but I'd still make sure.
The Galfers are a high carbon stainless steel, laser cut, parallel ground rotor.

Out of curiosity I went out to the garage to inspect the front brake rotors. In small letters I read "licensed by Galfer", so sure enough,Galfer's they are.
