I just passed 12,000 miles on my 2013 Super Ténéré. And mine sounds exactly like this. Many of Super Ténéré owners have a hugely bigger mileage without any issue, so...

Putting the updated CCT in sure does quiet the engine down and that means there is a problem. On top of that, it sure is nice to listen to a smooth, quiet running engine. A good dealer can get it replaced under the YES warranty.

The tensioner goes after a noise above and beyond what was recorded there, and only in the first few seconds after start up. If you had that noise you would be worried, I was. There is a metallic tick in that recording... sounds like mine, but I was going to listen to my exhaust header gaskets next time I have the ACD cover off.

OffCamber,
that's now official: I am a moron! ::002::

After I told you to move on and stop worrying as my bike does the exact same noise, I went to my dealership in San Diego, asking if my engine noise was normal or if I should get a CCT replacement.
Today, they called me back saying that my bike is part of a batch which qualifies for a replacement of the Cam Chain Tensioner. My bike is a 2013, still under warranty (but I have the 4 year YES also).
So go to your dealership, and let them ask Yamaha about it. The chances are that you are going to get it replaced under warranty.
I take the opportunity of this post to express my satisfaction with the level of support the manufacturer (Yamaha) provides to a lambda user (me). ::022:: I wish I had the same level of care from BMW...

First I am hearing of their being a bad batch of the 2013's. I just had my 600 mile service done and asked the dealer about the top end noise and they said it was normal. Anymore details on that batch?

I went back to my dealer. He checked but no bulletin have been issued for my early 2013 S10. Not even something about the CCT. According to the guy in charge at the dealership, it does not mean there won't be sometime in the future. The answer we got from Yamaha seems to be that if the customer complains about the CCT and the bike sounds weird, Yamaha proceed to the replacement. But that is just speculation on my end. Maybe that's just because I have a warranty for another 4 years, I am riding 14K miles a year, and it's cheaper to take preventive action than rebuild the engine.
Cory, with your 600 miles are not exactly in position to complain about some noise in the CCT. It develops long after that.

Nevertheless, hat-off to Yamaha for taking action on something that only very few of us have encounter with disastrous consequence. Even without a fight!
I am sure many KTM and BMW customers would love something similar. Anyway, that just comfort the S10 reputation to be rock-solid reliable!

I am getting more of a Yamaha fan by the mile! ::022:: ::022::

Sounds like mine. Been that way for 30,000 miles now. Hope you get a quick fix, so you can get back to riding.
