the old one was a swine to compress. Total POS.
Next valve adj. I will replace it with a manual adjuster from flea bay.

i wouldn't recommend going with a manual tct you have to block off the oil hole which they don't tell you how and its kind kind of hard to tell if you got it adjusted right sense you cant see the chain its all by feel.

doesn't the oil simply stop the tensioner from moving back and forth?
Once that POS is racheted in, it simply moves towards the front of the bike to take the slack out

At any rate, I don't have to worry about it for another 2 yrs..

Basically. The oil is there to dampen the spring between ratcheting.

Once the piston extends out, it can't retract more than a bit back, right? Someone posted a video of a fella comparing it to those wood clamps. Easy to slide in one direction, but binds when pushed in the other direction.

It has to turn while being compressed. Highly unlikely inside the engine. Just try to adjust your valves. When you have to compress the tensioner you'll see instantly this thing isn't retracting on its own! LOL

gotcha. pretty ignorant design in my opinion. That was the biggest pita in the whole valve adj. process

The parts manager has been Yamaha's for more than 35 years and he could not get an answer of the part number change. Either he couldn't get in touch with the right people or Yamaha is being tight lipped to avoid a TSB or worse or it is not a problem and just an upgrade.

Wondering if there was ever an answer to the differences between the old and new part numbers.
My tensioner is getting pretty abnoxious on startup and thought I would have the dealer replace it under my YES warranty. ???

It was covered in another thread about a valve adjustment, it's an updated design with more travel for the 2014 model. I think a few guys have replaced their '12-'13 CCT's with the new model and quieted down the normal top end rattle these things generate.

Thanks. Called my dealer to have him check it out and hope that he will replace it under the YES warranty.

Just curious... But why would he?

Have you had a problem with your current cam chain tensioner?

Thanks!

Ya, its been getting noticeably worse over the miles on initial starts. Can't be good for the chain slapping around like that and if the updated tensioner resolves the issue then its good for me and the dealer gets some warranty work. I like this dealer and they're literally down the street from me, so I'd like to give them the work if they can help me out, I'll want to do more with them.
