Hello fellow adventurers!
Bryan suggested that I post in the new member intros, so here we go.
I just bought a 2013 Super Tenere, brand new, uncrated last week for a darn good price. I live in the Seattle area. Its my first ADV bike, and I’ve wanted one for a long time. Its white, and its not the ES model.
I test rode it in the pouring rain…which on any other bike I would not have done, but since this is an ADV bike I figured it was apropos to get it dirty as hell on my very first ride. I also got to test out the traction control thanks to new tires + rain, and its pretty impressive. Wow sport mode has some grunt! I mostly ride in touring mode, but if I really want to be a hooligan or put an ear to ear smile on my face…sport mode sure as hell delivers.
This bike is amazing solo, amazing two-up with my wife, great in the rain, and just so well composed in every situation that I am continually impressed. I have nicknamed mine “Honeybadger” since its black and white, doesn’t give a s#&t, and goes through anything.
About me:
I’ve been riding on the street/track for 15 years. I have level 1 and 2 certs from the California Superbike School, and I helped work on the production of the Twist of the Wrist 2 DVD (my name is in the credits, its probably the only time in my life that will happen lol). I used to do trackdays pretty regularly, but eventually the cost and time commitment got to be too much for me, so at this point its been a few years since I put on my one piece and dragged a knee on tarmac.
I have owned a Buell, a few Yamahas, a Harley, and now the Tenere. Of all these bikes, the Tenere is the first bike that I feel is 99% perfect right from the start. All of my bikes previous to this…right away I felt like I had a huge list of things I wanted to change (bars, exhaust, seat, headlights, etc….). The Tenere is just such a great fit for me out of the crate. I have only one issue, and that is the windscreen sucks and I took it off. I may be the only person around here rocking a totally unfaired Tenere happily. I plan on buying an aftermarket screen and cutting it down until it just barely covers the brackets, since no one sells a micro screen for this bike, but that is only to hide the brackets since I don’t want to cut them off.
I still have my last bike, a 2007 Yamaha FZ6 that has been heavily modded, which I plan to sell this summer. I’m just not ready to part with it yet, since I have developed a fairly strong emotional attachment to that bike. That bike has been with me through a lot.
You guys have a great forum here, I lurked for a while but recently I figured that I would go ahead and register. I moderate a small subreddit for Harley Sportster enthusiasts and I used to be very active on SBN, but these days I don’t post as much as I used to.
Have to go home tonight and ziptie those spokes…I keep forgetting to do that, despite the fact that I’ve checked the tension on them in an almost paranoid fashion after seeing the damage they can do when they come loose.
Anyway, I’m glad to be here and I hope I can contribute something useful to the forum.
