HOwdy. I've been riding and '07 ST1300. Took a trip up to Canada (my first bike trip) saw two guys on KLRs come out of the mountains and thought to myself......"i wanna go where they've been". I then shopped around for a bike to fit the bill. Nothing really excited me enough to ditch my Honda. Then I heard about the SupTen and began obsessing (I have an affinity for Yamahas). The international Motorcycle rolled through town and I rode the demo. I decided to sell the Honda to buy the S10. Sold the Honda and immediately went to my dealer with my deposit. Now I present myself before you bike-less and waiting, wallowing in cager commuter hell. To add insult to injury my dealer called me earlier this week and told me he had a demo to ride. So off I went and went on a REAL demo ride.....delivery can not come soon enough!

Welcome along Mr Tool.

Hope you find the S10 as much to your liking as hundreds of others have.

Cheers

Welcome Super Tenereian Idiottool,

After riding the S10 Demo, what feature about the bike made you say this is the one?

A couple of things. First of all, I'm 5'7" so when I sat on it I was surprised how much of my foot I had planted on the ground. Lowest seat setting of course. The second reason was power on the top end. The ST 1300 was actually a great bike, however, since my preferred method of transportation in a motorcycle (day and night, rain or shine...etc.) I was looking for a bike better suited for the elements. I was pondering a GS in the future but never been a fan of their flat twin engine. So when I rode the Yamaha earlier this week I was looking to see how well the bike pulls from 80 mph up. Obviously not like the ST 1300 but that's apples to oranges but still better than the average car. Also what surprised me is how planted the front end was under hard braking. I actually thought the front forks had better feel than my Honda. Wind protection was much better than I anticipated. I glanced at the fuel consumption gauge and it read 45 MPG AVG and saw that bike had over 1000 miles on it. My Honda was averaging in the high 20's low 30's. And never forget the emotion factor.....I just like being on a Yamaha.

Welcome to the forum and the waiting list.

A comment about your ST1300 getting high 20's to low 30's MPG. After owning three St1300's I can say that the only ones that I ever heard of getting that poor mileage had a not uncommon problem with the thermostat being stuck open. Mine all got at least in the mid 40's.

Anyway, you'll feel better on your Yamaha when it gets here. ;D

Welcome aboard.

My ST1300 usually gets mid-40s, I managed 60 once on an insanely slow ride and dropped to 39ish with a bad headwind. Yours must have needed something fixed.
