I wonder if the connector wasn’t fully seated and it just disconnected upon removal of the air box? Hard to believe there wouldn’t have been an error code if it were already disconnected.

It's possible, but both sides of the connection looked pretty dusty like it was not connected. Funny, after the whole tune up (plugs, air filter, valve adjustment, and TB synch) I went for a good test ride. Ran nice and smooth, but not quite the change I expected. After about 40 miles, sitting at a stoplight, I noticed it was in T Mode. Switched to Sport and got the kick I was looking for...

I will admit, the air box removal is the one area where I did not really look at the service manual. If I had, I would have seen the disconnect step.
