So hopefully it's ok if I resurrect this dying thread.
I'm sorry if my knowledge and thoughts are oversimplified...

Here's a list of what I think I know:
1) My understanding is that the 2.25" id springs were a direct fit without needing a spacer, and the old RT springs that are now discontinued were approx 8.75" long (222mm)

What am I missing here?
Thanks all.
Ok, I figured out what I was missing: The old #6022 spring that was actually a drop in was not a straight 2.25" id. It actually was a bit bigger at one end. It's curious then to me that RT STILL has a 2.25" spring listed for the ST. I put in 2024 as the model year as I believe that all current ST's are ES. So it appears that RT has NEVER actually figured this bike out. Strange, kinda.

So I guess I'll go the tried and proven route that so many of you have. I'll use the 2.5" id spring.

I have a feeling I'll have difficulty finding a machine shop to make the spacer for me anywhere close here. Anybody know of any shops in Alberta that will do it for a somewhat reasonable price? I've seen some of you are from Alberta...

I'll give an update on my respring of the ES. I used the 525#er and weigh 180#+ in the birthday suit. I have been tooling around in the 1 passenger setting since the exchange, lately went to the 1 passenger and luggage which is noticeably firmer and seems to match the front suspension in bump, with the 1 passenger being softer. So if I was to do it again, I wouldn't hesitate to use the 550# spring and leave it in 1 passenger. I'll switch back soon just to see if my impressions remain the same, but this may help the heavier guys to make a decision.
