I'm happy with mine... even though the majority of the riding I do will be paved roads, it's nice to know I can take a detour or deal with road construction with less-that-white knuckles. LOL

The weight is the first thing you'll notice - you don't think around 150lbs makes much of a difference but it does, a lot.

I also like that it's NOT like the ST.. it has some vibes, the engine is just different, and so it's truly like having two completely different bikes and not two that basically server the same purpose. That's assuming you'll keep the ST of course.

It will tour just as well as the ST although it takes time to get used to the tank range of 200-ish miles vs almost 300. My reserve starts blinking around the 170-180 mark but I'll put in 5.2-5.3 gallons in a 6 gallon tank when I hit 200 miles... so I feel I could push it 240 if I really had to and all that is with no regard to the safety of the others drivers on the road LOL.

The ST is just a tad quicker.. but that's a seat-of-the-pants feel and I'm not sure if it's not an even match, it's just the engine on the Tenere doesn't feel like it's working at all so I get the feeling it's lugging, especially after riding the ST just before.

I think you'll like the bike. I would wait to see what the Triumph Explorer is like as well. But, I think the Tenere and GS are both more on the off-road spectrum whereas the Triump/Honda/Ducati are more on the on-road spectrum.

Be sure to let us know what you think and if you have any questions. Lots of guys here like this bike and some don't feel it's for them, that's okay, as long as you find the one that's right for YOU.

Good assessment Joe! I'm coming off a FJR, so the weight thing was not quite as obvious, but then I also noticed the reduction from my ST13 and the FJR beforehand.

Range is less, but then again I had already adjusted for that between the ST13 and the FJR. The SuperT actually does better for range than the FJR (at least it has for me).

The only thing I'm still dealing with is some back pain. Not sure what it is as it does not happen on very ride. I'm hoping that when I get the seat thing worked out, it will sort itself out. I will order a Sargent seat when available.

Good luck!

Interesting, no back pain for me but the top of my shoulders will get sore so may need some risers or drop the bars an inch or so. I do like that you can actually make any handlebar changes.. LOL

I'm also waiting for the sargent but I'm getting used to my xacto-knife-the-back-armor-insert in my seat.. LOL

I'm at a loss on the back pain. I've owned many AT bikes in the past and have always been very comfortable on them. Many people have back and/or wrist issues with sport touring bikes and need to add risers, etc. For me, I have always been comfortable on the ST11, ST13 and the FJR. I guess what I'm saying is that virtually every bike I have owned, comfort has not been an issue except for the seat. Why the SuperT is a problem is beyond me. I just hope that a new seat is the answer.

Mellow U the reason the Tenere is sluggush is because it is resticted in the 1st three gears.I sold my ST to (safedoctor). I'm riding a 08 RT which is killing my right hip. Just can't get far enough away from the WIDE tank to tuck in my legs which in turn cause the hip pain. But I can ride my KLR all day and NO hip. My only worry is that I choice the RT because of it's weight and going back up in weight with the Tenere. Have U done that Mod. for the extra litre of gas. I looked at that and wonder if that doesn't interfer with the fume recovery system and the char filter for the smog device.

I'm not going to throw money at this bike on performance stuff when I feel it's good enough. I understand if some do because that's also a fun part of having a bike - getting as much as you want out of it. However, I feel it's pretty darn nice as-is. I just wanted something I could tour on all day, with decent range and comfort and luggage. The comfort could be tweaked for me but some of that is getting on a different bike and getting used to it, still working out the luggage thing.. might end up with the pelican cases.

It's not a sport bike but it's no pig either.. The ST feels like it has more power up top than the Tenere but it's not going to run away from you because of that, both bikes are just as fast.. the Tenere due to it's lighter weight may even be faster in twitsies. None of that really matters much as it's not a race, just a ride...

Hope the Tenere ends up being comfortable for you, I have no experience with the RT so can't help with any comparisons there.

Good on ya! I agree with everything you said, but still folded to the temptation after following the 'power restriction lifted' thread. Consequently, my ECU is on the way to Diapason. I was perfectly content until somebody used the word 'restriction'...suddenly I wanted my full money's worth :D >:D

Has anyone tried a Anakee 2 rear with the stock Tourance EXP front?

My EXP rear is showing quite a bit of wear at 2500 miles (all pavement), but the front still looks fine....

I'm hoping they work well together until the front EXP wears out and I install an Anakee2 up front...
