I know Rob, but you’ve gotta ask.
May well buy Robs off him, he’s measuring the bracket holes for me as he doesn’t think it’ll fit my bike.
I’ve emailed Madstad too.
What you’ve said about fitment makes sense but I don’t want to make an expensive mistake and it threw me when Rob said he didn’t think it would fit tbh.

if its a gen 1 madstad, whitch is what he is saying it will fit onto the 2 up rights as the gen 1 has nothing else there, the gen 2 has the gen 2 screen bracket fitted to those 2 up rights, so if you remove the gen 2 screen bracket you will be left with just the 2 up rights like a gen 1 bike

if you look at the picture below of his the madstad bracket is cleary fitted to the 2 uprights that a gen 1 screen attaches to, if you remove your gen 2 screen holder you will also have just those 2 up rights left in the picture so it has to fit

i understand why you feel that way no worries, but i can,t for the life of me see how a gen 1 madstad bracket will not fit a gen 2 bike, if a gen 1 madstad bracket bolts onto those to gen 1 uprights once the gen 1 screen is off, because if you take the gen 2 screen and gen 2 screen bracket off your bike will be exactly the same as a gen 1 with those 2 up rights left

RIGHT, here is your answer the madstad gen 1 bracket will fit a gen 1 and a gen2 bike, the gen 1 madstad bracket will only then take a gen 1 standard or aftermarket screen, NOW the gen 2 madstad bracket will also fit a gen 1 or a gen 2 bike, but the madstad gen 2 bracket will only take a gen 2 standars or gen 2 aftermarket screen this is because the gen 1 and gen 2 screens have different holes in them

so, robs gen 1 bracket will fit your gen 2 , but its then down to a screen if you buy his bracket and his nice screen it will fit, but if you buy just his bracket it will fit your bike but then you will need a screen and because you then have a gen 1 madstad bracket you need a screen for a gen 1 bike any after market gen i screen will be ok,
but he is selling a bracket and scrren kit for a gen1 so as said before take your screen and gen 2 screen bracket off and your left with the 2 uprights like a gen 1 would have then his gen 1 madstad bracket and screen bolts on

also here we are this video is a gen 1 madstad bracket fitting, but as said once you take your gen 2 screen off and gen 2 screen bracket off your left with the same as this gen 1 the 2 standard up rights, rob is selling a screen 2 so it will fit

here you are a gen 2 madstad bracket ans screen, as the guy says you remove the gen 2 screen bracket, to fit the madstad bracket
so a gen 1 madstad with a screen will fit your gen 2

You’ve gotta be on commission with Rob mate!
Seriously though, thank you I’ll get the deal done with Rob asap.
I was happy with your original advice but Rob put doubts in my mind when he said he didn’t think it would fit.
It’s not a cheap screen even 2nd hand so needed to be 100% and as you know these bikes are all new to me and I’m no mechanic either.
Cheers mate your a star

no worries

i,ve looked and looked into this and as it says the madstad bracket weather a gen 1 or gen 2 bolts to the 2 up rights, a gen 1 thats just the screen off a gen 2 thats the screen and screen holder off, but still bolts to the up rights
lucky with his its a gen 1 but has a screen as well so once you take your screen bracket off the gen 1 will bolt straight on

only difference in the gen 1 bracket and gen 2 bracket is were the holes are on the front to fit a screen

oh and lol i don,t know rob at all lol i just saw his thread for sale on facebook, but this gen 1 gen 2 thing got a hold of me lol

i was going a long time ago to fit a gen 2 screen to my gen 1 bike all i needed was a gen 2 screen bracket and a gen 2 screen and that was it, a gen 2 screen bracket even tho yamaha they are expensive i had a chance of a nice one for peanuts, so it ment i could fit a gen 2 screen it its just bolts on and off thats why i knew this madstad thing would work

Haha, no worries Rob
I had a look at the Madstad website last night and couldn’t see any obvious differences between the two. But you’ve solved that puzzle thankfully so it all makes sense now.
I’ve just messaged Rob so hopefully I’ll get my hands on it soon.
Cheers
