Looks like Venture has taken care of it via the "Report Post to Moderator" button.

No, actually I found out about it through the "Report to Moderator," but I took care of it via the "Delete this account" button. Rod, I'll have to clue you guys in on how to use that.

I need to check if I have that option. On the Honda Pilot forum we have a button to "one touch ban and clean" which works great!

If you're interested..... the way we've kept these from the membership at STO is to moderate the 1st post of any new member.

If it's a generic introduction like 'glad to be here' zap!!! not good enough... but if they say something about the bike or riding or whatever to set the 1st post apart from 'something generic' then it gets approved and they can participate. This way, the only ones that ever see the spam are the admin/mods but NEVER the membership.

I don't know much about this software so the implementation of this approach may or may not be something easy to do. Just trying to help.

Good idea Joe. We used to use something similar on the Honda Pilot forum and it weeded out a bunch of spammers. We now have a good group of members that report spammers and we clean them pretty much "real time".

That's an option as well... my only issue with that is 'a very few' of the spammers spam w/porn and not just selling shoes or cell phone accessories. Even though a member will see that and react fairly quickly... it may still be 'out there' for a few hrs before someone w/power is on the site. The approach we use at STO is a lot more work of course as 99% of the time everyone is genuine, so it's a trade off.

I'm familiar with the STO approach. I registered there a few months back and still haven't made that first post. ;D

If things get bad enough this is definitely an option, and a very bullet-proof one at that. I'm sure it can be accomplished if we need to go this route.

I believe I just figured out how to enable the "one click clean and delete" option for the Global Moderators. I'm awaiting confirmation but we got bigger guns now for the next time. 8)

well.....if you've been up on the news, it looks like they attacked Lockheed as well, so we're in good company

the US Department of Defense has stated cyber attack can be declared an act of war, so hacker beware if you hear (or don't) anything that sounds like it might be incoming

We weren't really hacked. The spammers have special programs that are coded to register on a forum, do the email validation, and then automatically post a series of spam messages on the forum. These are actions any human can do right now, any one of you could post a bunch of garbage if you wanted. You could say we were targeted, but even that probably isn't the case since the spam bots are sophisticated enough to go down the IP range and look for forums to attack.

The spammers are a nuisance, certainly, but this far we haven't been maliciously attacked in any way (knock on wood).

Oh, jeeze ... flavors ???? Like dead chicken, dead pig, dead cow, dead sheep and dead horse ???? Ewwwww.

Oh well, remember .... spam is just maps spelled backward. Maybe like a good map, spam will get you out of a tight spot in an emergency. I dunno .....

OK, moving on now. R

Good point. It's likely no worse than a lot of the stuff you can buy these days. Apparently wieners are no class act, and I've certainly consumed my share of them. Maybe that's why I'm such a hot dog now. R
