License plate light bracket

I have a 2017 Tenere, I'm not sure what this piece is called, can't locate it in books but it's the plastic bracket which houses the LED license plate lights that illuminate the license plate. This plastic piece is loose, you can wiggle it up and down. The nuts are tight, so is this piece suppose to wiggle up and down a little bit because it's a dual sport bike? It's looks like it needs tightened but the nuts are tight..

All the US bikes have a metal license plate bracket with side reflectors attached to the fender....makes the plate more vertical too.
Because of the extra space between the plate & fender...there is a spacer added to the license light assy. (This is common on many other bikes too..ie V Stroms definately)
I have always removed the reflector bracket..mounting the plate directly to the fender...& the light spacer too. Cleans up the rear fender area...you can add the reflectors several different ways to keep them.
On the Tenere..I still had to add some washers to the light mounts under the fender to get rid of some floppyness in the light. After this...there is still enough play to keep the bulb from damage in bumpy conditions...& the bike looks better for it

Anybody need some license plate reflector brackets... (7 V Stroms later)

In the parts diagram above Item 15 is cut off on the list but it is a rubber grommet, not a rigid mount, so it appears to be loose.

Yes...a rubber grommet with a steel collar to keep the rubber from compressing when tightening the bolt
I seem to remember either a washer added to make the collar length shorter or a shorter collar itself to compress the rubber slightly.

I think that lamp assembly is rubber mounted to protect the bulb filament from excess shock and vibration. Note that this is a conventional incandescent bulb not an LED as supplied from the factory.

Ive never had any issues with all the V Strom license light tucks (7) Ive done over the years.....same type bulb....& the Tenere is still a bit looser than the Strom after the mod so vibration shouldnt be an issue.

The bottom line to the OP is that it is perfectly normal to be loose like that. If you want to fart around and add washers or grind the grommet spacer down a little to minimize the slop, go right ahead, but, the looseness was designed in for a reason, even if only to extend the life of a $3 bulb.
