Ignition key difficulty

Hey all, recently the ignition key of my 2023 S10 is episodically very difficult to go in fully in order for the ignition to turn. It seems like it doesn't want to go in the final click or so. The bike was bought new just a few months ago, so still under warrant, but I thought I will see if anyone here has had that issue before I take it in to the dealer. Thanks!

The first thing a dealer will do is get the apprentice to squirt some WD40 in the key hole. I wouldn't. Use some graphite. WD40 is a great product in the right place but tends to trap dirt in small spaces like locks. Graphite is dry and works better.
Could you just use the tip of a pencil same thing ?

I would clean the key with +#0000 steel wool and use Dri Slide on the key……a bottle from your local dealer will last a lifetime.
Dri Slide is some magic stuff. I've been using it since the 70's. You're right, a bottle will last for years. Lubing cables is where it really shines. A friend had a jet boat and the thrust adjuster cable was froze up and wouldn't move. The dealer wanted $250 for a new cable. He brought the cable by the shop and I hung it up and started putting drops of Dri Slide in the top every couple of hours and it wasn't long before it was running out the bottom. Saved the cable and him a bunch of cash. Dri Slide really works as advertised.

There are several lubes designed for locks on the market, even wd40 makes one specifically for locks, I bought an aerosol can of the wd40 stuff made for locks many years ago, rarely need it but when I do it works great.

Be careful with putting graphite into a lock. I once accidentally put too much in (it really didn’t seem like that much) and it packed into the bottom of the lock cylinder and would not allow the key to be fully inserted. I ended up having to flush it out with WD-40 anyway!

On the very top of the ignition there’s a part that turns independent of the barrel, thus closing of the key slot. Not sure if this is security or to protect from water, or something else. Just check that it’s fully back in the right place to accept the key.

Thanks for all the replies folks! I will see if a bit of lock lube helps.
That said, I was looking at the ignition closely to see if I can figure out what @Boris alluded to and now I'm wondering if it appears damaged.

Mine use to look like that. The little sliding door was jammed. Someone had pressed down on the metal at the top and jammed it. Some careful adjusting with a small flat blade screw driver did the trick. In spite of my suggestion to use graphite, a dry lube aerosol is probably a better bet.

Just to be clear, I’m not talking about that little door that moves aside, I mean that whole top turns independently. If you put the key in by one or two mm, it turns and shuts off the key slot, taking the door with it. When you re-align the opening with the rest of the barrel there’s a clear click as they fall back into place. If they’re not lined up as they should be the key doesn’t want to fully engage.

looking at your pic, I’d put some WD40 on a cotton bud and clean the outside, as that door is stuck open.

Hmm never noticed it before but the door on my lock is also stuck open, I will attempt to clean it and see what happens.
