It doesn't say you will cause bike malfunction only that it is unsafe to change it while riding do you guys agree?

The traction control system mode can be changed only when the key is in the “ON” position, the engine is stopped and the vehicle is not moving. TIP Use “TCS” mode “Off” to help free the rear wheel if the motorcycle gets stuck in mud, sand, or other soft surfaces. NOTICE Use only the specified tires. (See page 6-18.) Using different sized tires will prevent the traction control
system from controlling tire rotation accurately. Setting the traction control system WARNING Be sure to stop the vehicle before
making any setting changes to the traction control system. Changing settings while riding can distract the operator and increase the risk of an accident.

Further when using d mode it says to stop the bike but I read a post that said this is a misprint but I haven't seen that come from Yamaha has anybody else heard that? Here is what the manual says about d mode:
Do not change the D-mode while the vehicle is moving. Using this switch changes the drive mode to touring mode “T” or sports
mode “S”. The throttle grip must be completely closed in order to change the drive mode.

I'm sure an existing owner will confirm for sure, but my bet is that nothing bad can happen by ATTEMPTING to change mods during operation. My guess is most of the warning verbiage is safety related

The question exists though if the bike will even allow changes of mods unless the specified conditions are met. Sometimes there are mechanical reasons for this (think low range on a 4x4).

The traction control can only be deactivated when stationary. First thing I do when I start the bike. The other modes can be changed on the move but you need to close the throttle to make it happen.

A good question for the AltRider guys, will the ABS switch they are developing work on the fly?
