Went to the local Honda dealer last week and ordered some Honda Moly 60 Paste as I was installing a new tire this morning and wanted to lube the drive splines.

According to the local dealer, Honda Moly 60 is no longer available, and has been superseded by Honda Moly 77 Grease - which was delivered when the Moly 60 part number was ordered.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Got a trip planned for the week, rear rim is off, and now this. The Tenere has 11,000 kms on it now so thought it would be nice to get this out of the way.

While the 77 is supposed to be slightly lower temp rating, it's probably still high enough since Honda uses it in their splines. My guess is that they determined the higher moly content (was 60% is now 65%, like the LockTite competitor) was more desirable than the reduced temp capability. Plenty of 60 available online and can be fast delivery.

The moly grease from auto parts stores is FAR less actual moly content and I'd stay away from it for our use.

Took it all apart and the splines looked dry. Put a "dab" of Moly 77 all the way around. Smeared a little over the splines on the hub as well. The hub was stuck it there pretty good when I removed the tire. It took some gentle prying with a slotted screwdriver slowly working around the diameter to get it off.
