Help with VIN number on S10

So a few years back I had my S10 remapped. The company that mapped it told me it was a 2010 but the bike only became registered in the UK in 2014 (plate is YM14) so today being curious I took a photo of my VIN to double check.

The VIN is JYADP015000002339

Is this VIN correct as 2010 made as my 10th character is a 0 but on VIN coding sheets there is no 0 and most other VINs I've seen are not normally so many 0's in them.

Doing a basic free VIN check it comes back to a Yamaha S10 so I know it's not a fake/clone but just stumped as to the amount of 0's in the VIN itself and not being clear the year etc.

Am I missing something?

TIA.
Tom.

You’re not missing anything but indeed the VIN is supposed to never have 0, O, I, Q, U, or Z

It’s there, you can’t change it, Yam sure won’t, and the motor vehicle department accepted it. Ride on.

I never mentioned I wanted it changing or had a problem with it so I’m slightly confused to your reply which provided no help or answer to my question.

Maybe the OP's bike is a late registered Gen 1, so I guess it could well be a 2010 build. Given the peculiar launch & pre-ordering arrangements, Yamaha were left with unsold inventory, which they cleared progressively ahead of the Gen2 update in 2014.

My 2014 ES Gen2, doesn't show a dating code in the VIN sequence, just a zero at the 10th digit, just like @bimota.

EU VINs have different pattern rules than NA VINs
10th character might not mean YOM in EU though it does here.

My suggestion is bring it to a Yamaha dealer.

I think every vehicle I have contains a zero in the VIN.

My point was that what’s in the VIN essentially doesn’t matter so just enjoy the bike.

Search with the following for why I pointed out that 0 and O are not used in the year position.
“Can European VIN numbers have 0 as the year?”

I'm in Canada, have a 14 and an 18.

It's the ninth digit on mine, as my 14 has an 'E', and the 18 a 'J'.

They both start out with: JYADP05N0 then the ninth digit is those E and J letters, then both are an A following. After that it's a bunch of zeros then a 3 digit number to finish.

I don't see your vin confirming to the same conventions in your locale, compared to mine.

Are you taking that vin from the paperwork, or directly off the chassis? Maybe some clerk fooked yours up?

This is what the Yamaha system says:
2012 model, see picture. It’s in Dutch since I live there but I think you can figure it out ;) IMG_4497.jpeg

The 17 digit VIN coding is standardized in North America as far as the 10th slot showing model year (not same as manufacture year). The format was set out originally by the US SAE which was picked up in a US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) then adopted by the ISO. Digit 9 is a security code, 10 is model year, and 11 is the assembly plant.

However, curiosity just revealed that the ISO standard allows some flexibility in Euro VIN digits 9 thru 11 and that limited flexibility is why your VIN has zeroes.
