Picture of the bike, lightest she will ever be.

Also im guessing its no problem to flush cut the two drain hoses in front.
I like that little bridge. I'm assuming you know that if you ride away from the bridge and take your first left then ride 7-10 miles, at the Y in the road turn right. Go back that way and up the mountain there are some really nice dirt roads, and some really fun ones back down the mountain. Very nice stuff back there.

I'm guessing you can tell I don't know the names of any of the roads I ride.

My house is on those mountain roads... I live in "the farms" about a mile from the fire station and Jim's country store. That is one major reason getting this bike. ;D

Nice area up there. I had planned to ride the WR up there today, but never got on the bike. If you see a Tenere or a WR wandering around on those dirt roads it's probably just me.

If you pass this way let me know. Would love to follow you up one poorly maintained gravelish road called Dooms Peak, had about 10-12 switchbacks. Needed my truck to be in 4x4 to climb it. Not 100% sure on to tackle it on the bike yet.

I don't think I've encountered that one yet. Looks fun. I've found another very steep switch back laded road. The one I know looks like it has a trail off to the left at the bottom. The trail is posted.

I'll try to let you know next time I'm heading that way. There's a lot I have yet to explore up there, and I'll be happy to give you whatever tips I can to get you up to the top of Doom. If your 4x4 truck can climb it, the Tenere will scoot right up no problem.

Congrats on the bike!

If you make that left on 33 and go past Skidmore lake, that is Dunkle Hollow. I have done it once or twice on an 1150gs and bunches of times on a dr650. It is doable on a Tenere as long as you are okay with the possibility of dropping it. I wouldn't do it alone the first time. At the top of Dunkle Hollow you can make a right and head to Reddish Knob or a left on Flagpole. I would not recommend making the left >:D

If you make it to Reddish Knob and look about 4 miles to the North West you can see my camp.

Instead of Dunkle Hollow I would recommend Long Run and the roads just North of the rifle range to break her in.

Hope to run into you up that way.

I looked up Doom Peak based on your map.

I have never seen that one before. Looks great. The steep switchback road I'm familiar with is circle B on this map. Circle C is where this happened: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=6001.0

I'm please to learn there is a fun road nearby that I've not yet tried. Looking forward to checking it out.

Took that a few times in the Jeep, never left down, but to the right then up to the lookout on pavement. Stationed at the Navy base?

Nope, live in Va. Beach but have a camp in WV. I try to get there as often as possible.

You really have me curious about Doom Peak. If you see a WR running around out there today, it's most likely me.

Hey peschon, I think I saw you today. At least I did see what looked to be a 2014 Tenere. I had just finished checking out Doom Peak and had made it out to the black top and was heading north on 603. The Tenere was heading south on 603. It was about 1:45pm. I tried to get the riders attention, even turned around to see if it was you and maybe pulled over. But WRs don't catch Teneres on the pavement...but they pass them on the dirt. ;D

I checked out Doom Peak.

I'd say if your gut is telling you that road is beyond your comfort level, you should listen for a while. No rush. Take some time getting used to your new ride on flatter dirt surfaces. Get used to how it feels in reduced traction situations. The Tenere is a huge dirt bike to be learning motorcycle dirt skills. It can be done, but Doom Peak, even if paved, would be challenging for a new big bike rider. Even more challenging with the reduced traction in the steep switchbacks.

Rest assured, when your skills are ready, the Tenere will motor up that road and give you a big smile.

Yep, Left my house at 1:40, riding with a black helmet and black jacket. Trying to remember a blue WR just so excited to be able to get out on the bike, I didn't even notice other riders......
